to Kathmandu hiking
Hi,

I have a new Magellan eXplorist GPS device, but I need to download a
good trail map for Nepal. Any suggestions? I've found a lot of sites
that offer GPS maps for Garmin, but not necessarily for Magellan. Any
GPS device experts out there?

Thanks,
Heather

Hi Heather,
I m not an expert, but I bought a Garmin GPS yesterday and the Nepalmap.
I got it from "the rising traders". http://risingnep.com/
Maybe you can ask them. They are officially licend Garmin traders, but maybe they have other devices too.
Good luck!

Hi Heather, Hi Susanne,
We are currently working on a project to map streets of Kathmandu using OpenStreetMap (OSM) platform. We also plan to add hiking and biking trails in the future. The map will be free for everybody to use and edit. Please follow our activity at www.adyota.org.

OSM is basically wikipedia of maps. So, you can add locations, trails etc on it just like you add and edit items/descriptions on wikipedia. So basically you will be able to trace the trails as you hike and contribute to the map. By next month, we will be doing workshops and training to familiarize people with OSM. I just wanted to give you all heads up on our activity. We will post on this forum again once we are in a position to provide training to general public.

Cheers and have fun in Nepal.

Rajeev
