Hi,

Is there a workflow for generating ST maps using free software? As an amateur hobbyist (at best) PTGui is too expensive for me to justify for a file that shouldn't change once I have it generated.

I want to generate a map for the dual fisheye of the Samsung Gear 360 v2 as your incredible software could really revive this abandoned hardware as cheap gateway camera/ learning aid.

Or if anyone had a premade map, it would be amazing to see a repository of maps for different cameras to create an easier starting point into the workflow.

Kind Regards

Jimmy

Hi Jimmy,

If you could send me a sample unstitched video clip filmed on the Samsung Gear 360 v2 of the camera rotating slowly around the tripod mounting point it would help with creating a stitching template.

Regards,
Andrew

Hi Andrew,

That would be amazing! I have shared it over google drive, do let me know if the footage is no good! Turns out rotating around a 360 camera is not easy, and definitely not elegant!

The map you made for Hugh's canon R5C, is so very nearly compatible.

The line is from the bezel of the lens.

Many kind regards

Hi Jimmy,

Thanks for the Google Drive sample Gear 360 v2 content. It's just what I need to make the template.

Regards,
Andrew

Hi Jimmy,

I wanted to check back in with you to give you a progress update. I am pleased to be able to mention that I added several new GPU accelerated DCTL Fuse nodes to Kartaverse called "kvrLensStereo" and "kvrViewer" that are the starting point for improved dual fisheye  based video stitching workflows.

This next week, if time allows, I hope to finally wrap up the development work on a seamless multi-view blending + multi-view color matching node that has a working title of "kvrBlend.fuse". I also have a node in development called "kvrCropStereo" that helps with extracting the dual camera views from any combined dual fisheye frame layout while also allowing for positional corrections of the view orientation and optical frame center point for each eye. Finally there is another node with a working title of "kvrAlign" that will help finish up the release of a revised end-to-end stitching pipeline.

You will be able to use these nodes either in a parametric fashion to do the video stitching directly, or as a way to generate the needed STmap template images to be able to then perform STmap stitching directly on the Edit page in Resolve.

Cheers,
