Dear Mr. Bustenera,
Thank you for your e-mail regarding the New Zealand Herald article on the
reported ordeal of New Zealand woman Mary Elizabeth Jones which appeared
last 20 September and in today’s issue. I deeply appreciate your concern
and proactive action.
Please be informed that I immediately reported this matter to the
Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and the Inter-Agency Council Against
Trafficking (IACAT) of the Department of Justice. The Embassy is also
coordinating with the local government and police authorities in Iloilo
City for immediate investigation.
The Embassy is following up with the relevant agencies and local
authorities action taken on this matter.
As soon as I get the updates and reports, the Embassy will get in touch
with the NZ Herald reporter and inform the relevant agencies here
accordingly.
Attached is a copy of news on this subject which appeared in the Philippine
Daily Inquirer on 23 September 2011.
I look forward to meeting you and the other members of the Filipino
community in Auckland .
