If you want to have choice then go here. Read carefully, I don't want to
end KC, I want CHOICE of my provider. It would appear that I can no
longer post replies to my own thread. If you want to get a review of
this city's telco done and allow yourselves to have the freedom to
choose who provides your voice and data communications, then go here:-

http://www.viper.karoo.net

on this page is a link to a document. Dowload it, distribute it. Get
them filled in, send them to OFTEL. Let me know how many you get sent.
I'll keep score. It's the ONLY way we're ever going to get OFTEL
involved. I;ll try to post in the group, but I don't know if I can any
more, hence dejanews.

If my page goes missing, then please email me.

Pete (TGGA)

I've done my letter will get sent today.

I've also sent a potted history to www.theregister.co.uk I imagine most of
you will be familiar with it anyway but for those that aren't it's a
refreshingly bullshit free IT news site. (They were the ones that brought
Viking's "Scunny Stunnas" competition to the 'Net's attention.)

The guy replied as follows.....

"neil - very interesting - i'll come back to you later after i've done
digging

cheers

tim"

It will be nice to see an independent article free from the usual spin
applied by the HDM.

Here's hoping

I think the pattern may be that I can't post onto one of my own threads.
Since this was started my my "twin" onm dejanews I'll try.

All the help, publicity and support that we can get is great. Like I've
said if this one fails KC will be more arrogant to the people of Hull
than they are already, if that's possible:-) This really does need to
keep moving and the more publicity the better. I'm writing to BT and NTL
tomorrow to see what their reactions are.

Thanks for that "Anorak" :P

Pete

Choice is overrated, as long as KC offer a great service, im fine,
cept KC is too expensive, and too slow on releasing DSL,
I don't care about other providers, just improve the service !

And while we have no choice where is the incentive for them to improve?

Fool!

Tim.

What competition, none is allowed, hence the word monopoly. Take for example
ADSL. In order to become an SP in Hull you have to purchase a minimum of
10,000 units off KC at between £33 and £40 per month. Doesn't take a rocket
scientist to work out there isn't 10,000 internet users in Hull really does
it?. Let alone an SP with £4 million a year to waste.

No government pressure at all, OFTEL couldn't give a flying f**k about KC.
They think their role in life is to kick BT. No review will take place until
2009 (no unbundling at all) or you write to your council and they ask for a
review. Tell me Mr Oftel, why would I ask the owners of a company to ask for
a review? 524 people wrote to OFTEL regarding the copnsultation in 1998.
That 0.3% of the population sealed the fate of this city until 2009.

What good will?, take it or leave it is KC's motto

It isn't mine though. I, too, am attempting to attract a VERY large ISP to
the area. I'm attempting to do this through unofficial channels though, so
it will take some time. No point in asking me anything about it, if they
come - you'll know. On the subject of ADSL, it's ATM from the exchange to
the centre. That means it would take more than 70 users on your exchange to
make it less than 2mbit. Also remember that KC will want to protect
bandwidth for their precious KIT. My guess is that KC will charge £40
minimum, they can't cross subsidise. Having a good connection to your ISP is
one thing, them having a good connection to the UK backbone is another. KC
have the capacity to Leeds etc, from owning Torch Telecom, but I doubt that
they use much at all. They only have Internet because if they didn't they
would have to allow others to provide it. Don't expect anything more than
the basic minimum from them ever.

If any of this is wrong I look forward to a KC employee refuting it, in
writing................. Prove me wrong, I'd love you to. You have my email
address. Oh yes the share price is great, I'm buying them very cheaply. I do
expect the price to drop bellow £1 again. I would think that NTL maybe
looking quite closely at them.
