KATHMANDU, July 24: Nepal Scout Kathmandu district in coordination with
Human Rights Environment Development Centre of Mugu has been running
relief programmes in the Karnali zone for the last five years.
Under the programme, 75-quintal rice will be distributed to 7,500
families of the remote villages of Mugu district this year, said
Community Development Commissioner of Nepal Scout Shiv Ram Aryal at a
press meet Sunday.
Earlier, only clothes collected from donations as winter collection
drive were given to the people of the zone. Last year 42,000 clothes,
150 pairs of shoes, 4,500 copies, and educational materials were given
to 800 students and 300 sets of text books of Class 1 were distributed
to 10 schools in the district
>From last year, they also started providing rice, shoes and stationery.
Aryal said they have started a campaign of collecting 'one student one
copy' from students in Kathmandu as relief material to the Karnali
students. "We are sending 10,000 copies to the students of nine schools
in three VDCs of Mugu district within a few days,"he said.
He said that educational materials worth about Rs. 200,000, donated by
Janak Educational Material Centre and other organisations, would be
distributed in 14 schools of the district. Action Aid and other donor
agencies have made commitments to give around 3,000-quintal rice for
the relief programme, said Aryal.
