It has been some while, so I am even more happy to invite you for our
next GTUG hackathon. Goal is to make a nice app using Android
technology. What kind of app is totally up to you - so far nothing has
been decided so please discuss this topic here in this group.

To have an efficient hackathon, the participants must fulfill the
following prerequisites:

- Have an Eclipse running with the Android SDK
- Have successfully run the Hello World Tutorial (http://
developer.android.com/guide/tutorials/hello-world.html)

This will take you just a couple of hours and will totally improve the
results of our hackathon. Apart from that no knowledge is needed,
especially it is not necessary that you have worked with the Android
SDK before. So don't hesitate, sign up for this nice event here:
http://de.amiando.com/RXPRJBW.html.

PS: For people who wonder about the title, just look at this video:

Hi Marcus,

on the Teilnehmerliste there is no registration button at all, at least not for people without an account. That's probably why there are no participants yet.
Can you make the registration public like last year?

Cheers,

Chadong

Thanks Chadong,

looks like amiando has changed their registration process, so i had to
change the settings.
But now there is a huge registration form on this page:
http://de.amiando.com/RXPRJBW.html.
Please use it and spread the word.

Best,
Marcus

Hi,

last change to register for our great hackathon:
http://de.amiando.com/RXPRJBW.html
And don't forget to prepare your notebooks and install the required
software....
Do you guys already have an idea for an app we can build?

Best,
Marcus

I'm not 100% sure I can make it but I would really like to build a Color
clone. Color (http://www.color.com/) is an app for iPhone and Android
which let you take photos and automatically shares these photos with all
people near you using Color. It's actually quite simple and a pretty
cool idea. Unfortunately there Android version sucks (well, OK, it's
beta, but still). I'm pretty sure we could build a better version in one
weekend (well, maybe not visually better, but more functional)..

Best regards,
Markus

Hi All,

I am not programming, I know;-) But don't you like games?

What about a "simple" game like "Rock-paper-scissors", "Tic Tac Toe" or
"Battleship") (for more than 2 players)?

Just my 2 and a half cents:)

Games are fine, but it should be a little bit more creative. Not some
game where there are alrealy like 100 versions in the market. Another
thing is that a hackathon project should be focused on one or more
specific APIs (like camera, C2DM, NFC, etc.)..

Markus

and an idea from me:

probably you know that we have railway tickets that are cheaper if
they are shared by people,
e.g.:
the Baden-Württemberg-Ticket or very new the Quer-durchs-Land-Ticket
(http://www.bahn.de/regional/view/regionen/freizeit/quer-durchs-
land.shtml)
And probably you observed people asking other people on the ticket
vending machines to share their ticket for that reason.

This is a complicated task and can be simplified very much by an app.

To make this easy the app assumes you want to go now and from the
station you are staying.
Just mark in the app where you want to go to. And as in your profile
is stored a picture of you,
you easily find other people nearby the vending machine with the same
destination and can save a lot of money.

and another one (actually it is an idea from a co-worker of mine):

as you know inflation rates are rising. probably you don't know that
recently central bank politics in Europe have changed
so that permanently rates of 4% are expected. This means if you have
100.000 € (not unrealistic for cool computer guys as we are),
we loose 4.000 € every year. Not very nice. So the idea of this app is
to get independent of central bank politics by paying
with a independent currency that is not controlled by central banks,
like gold coins (can be anything else that you think is inflation safe
like silver - this is just an example).
As gold coins are usually way more worth then traded goods we need a
app that stores the change people owe each other.
How does this happen - here's an example: Let's say you want to buy a
kebap from me and it's
actual value is 3,28 EUR (today that's the value of 0,1 g gold). As
you only have 1g coins of gold, the app stores a transaction (can be
done with fancy NFC)
that you owe me 0,1g of gold and then i will give you the kebap. As
you are hungry from time to time you buy 10 kebaps from me. As the
price for a kebap is 0,1g gold,
you owe me after that 1g of gold. Depending of how much i trust you I
may request the gold coin of 1g. You then give me the coin and the app
commits this transaction and our balance is again 0.
That way I can sell my goods for the prices of gold and don't need to
use a currency that is loosing it's value.
The app has a lot of potential: Think of a lot people using it and the
possibility that people can lend money against an interest rate. Then
you soon have something like a dezentralized global bank
- let's say after wikileaks it is a wikibank :)

Have you had a look into bitcoin currency or the like?

Hi,

ja schade, dann hätten wir's vielleicht fertig geschafft - das
momentane Ergebnis findest ihr hier:
http://code.google.com/p/greenwatch/

Momentan haben wir noch ein Killer-Issue:
http://code.google.com/p/greenwatch/issues/detail?id=1

Hat jemand ne gute Idee für die C/S Kommunikation mit Android und GAE?

Gruß,
Marcus
