Good afternoon! My name is AnaMaria Bambaren-Call and I am the
Interpreter Service Program Manager with the International Rescue
Committee, Phoenix Office. As the name of my program implies, I am
currently working to launch an interpreter service in the Phoenix area
to help service the community, especially speakers of what we term
'languages of lesser diffusion', including Karen.

There is great need in the community for qualified, trained Karen
interpreters who can support the delivery of effective services
(social, medical, education, legal, etc) and the IRC's Interpreter
Service hopes to help meet that need. We also recognize that work of
this type can be a valuable education and career opportunity for
community members with high levels of language proficiency in multiple
languages (i.e. Karen and English).

In order to make contact with multilingual community members in
Phoenix interested in potential work as contract interpreters, we hold
orientations, titled Orientation to Community Interpreting, every
month. Our next event is coming up next week on Thursday, April 30,
2009. The Orientation will take place at our new facility on 5227 N.
7th St., Phoenix 85014 and will go from 5-8pm.

I have a flier that I am happy to send any interested parties. I am
also happy to come to an event or service and share information about
the Orientation and the Interpreter Service. Please feel free to email
me if you have any questions or wish to receive further information.

Respectfully,
AnaMaria Bambaren-Call, Program Manager- Interpreter Service
International Rescue Committee
