Colleagues,

Good afternoon. We are currently in the process of researching two potential ministries here in Richmond related to Food Cooperatives:

1)  Community Garden connected with the Resettlement Community where a large plot in the city.

2)  An actual Food Co-op in partnership with the Central Virginia Food Bank. This model is well established at the Georgia Avenue Co-op in Georgia.   Basically, the receipients of the food are also the laborers to receive it.  The church helps facilitate it via transportation and space.

Wondering if any of you have anything that would be helpful to our conversation and/or would be interested in traveling to Georgia with us in January for our research trip?

Give it some thought and let me know your thoughts. Thanks.

We did an "urban farm" project for the refugee community (pilot
project only involving those from Burma the first time out) last
spring/summer and will be running it again with some adjustments this
coming growing season. I can put you in touch directly with the person
overseeing the project in our city--would that be helpful? It's done
in conjunction with FoodLink, our area food co-op that distributes to
a lot of the area food cupboards.
