Research Scientist (Duke University) – Financial Transfers for Maternal and Child Health in IndiaCOHESIVE-India is looking for a highly motivated and organized Research Scientist (or post doc) with research experience and interest in quantitative research methods for a large new research project in India focusing on financial transfers in maternal and child health and nutrition. In addition to evaluation of conditional transfers, the project will focus on research related to intra household resource allocation, effect of information on household behavior, and household investments in the perinatal period. The Research Scientist will work closely with the project’s PI and co-investigators (mainly economists), and research associates to develop the survey instruments, interventions, and protocols for field work and data management. In addition, s/he will develop and lead the analysis of several waves of data collected across multiple states leading to research manuscripts and project reports targeted at policy makers. Conditional on funding approvals, we aim to recruit this position to join the research team in Fall 2017. The position will be based at Duke in Durham, NC, and will report to the PI (Mohanan) directly.Responsibilities
- Coordinate the development of survey instruments to be used in all waves of data collection;
- Assist in developing interventions and field protocols targeted at key research questions in the project;
- Lead the development of analysis plans for the overall project as well as for interventions to be implemented over the course of the project;
- Supervise work of research assistants in Durham and coordinate with India-based field research associates
- Manage the large stream of data, organize datasets, and documentation for the project;
- Contribute to and lead publications from this data, including policy reports
- Occasional international travel as needed
Qualifications
- PhD (recent or expected) in Biostatistics, Economics, Epidemiology, Public Policy, or similar quantitative disciplines;
- Demonstrated interest in maternal and child health, nutrition;
- Excellent data analysis and data management skills - needs to be extremely well-organized;
- Strong academic record;
- Successful track record of publishing in medical and public health journals;
- Excellent writing and presentation skills;
- Experience in India, South Asia, or knowledge of Hindi would be an advantage;
