Background

 

Maternity Foundation is a Danish development organization that works to reduce maternal and newborn mortality in developing countries. 

 

With the vision ‘No woman should die giving life’, Maternity Foundation works to empower and mobilize women to seek care, to build the capacity of and train health practitioners, so that more women give birth with skilled birth attendance. Maternity Foundation’s own program, the Maternal and Newborn Health Program in Ethiopia, works with local partners in the capacity building of health care workers and empowering the community to seek care.

 

The Safe Delivery App – developed by Maternity Foundation, Copenhagen University and University of Southern Denmark – is a smartphone application that provides skilled birth attendants with direct and instant access to evidence-based and up-to-date clinical guidelines on Basic Emergency Obstetric and Neonatal Care.

 

The Safe Delivery App will reach its full potential not as an isolated tool, but as an integrated part of existing health system strengthening efforts. Therefore, we are working to take the App from isolated tool to an integrated program, coordinated by our mHealth Competency Center in Copenhagen and Washington D.C. These efforts are funded by the Gates Foundation and Merck for Mothers. In the next few years, we have committed to building national platforms to implement the App at scale into health systems in a minimum of five countries.

 

Position Summary: The Senior Partnership Manager will lead Maternity Foundation’s strategy in cultivating, strengthening and sustaining relationships with key mHealth partners in our priority countries, in particular ministries and departments of health in Sub Saharan Africa and SE Asia. The Senior Partnership Manager will also be most directly responsible for shaping Maternity Foundation’s strategic plan for implementing the Safe Delivery App at scale in an impactful and sustainable way. Thus, we seek an experienced professional who has a clear track record of managing successful mHealth partnerships at scale.

 

Reporting Relationships: The Senior Partnerships Manager will report directly to the CEO. Maternity Foundation is comprised of a small, nimble team, made up of dedicated individuals that all work in close collaboration across countries and titles. Hierarchy is not a principle focus; rather, we are guided by an “all pitch in” mindset.

 

Work Schedule: The work schedule for this position is flexible and negotiable, but is approximately 30- 40 hours a week. While Maternity Foundation is headquartered in Copenhagen, this position can be remote with travel to Denmark and partner countries. A remote position will require some flexibility to coordinate schedules with the rest of the based team in Copenhagen. As such, this position is ideal for an individual that works most productively on deliverables, is a driven self-starter and is able to travel.

 

Compensation: Compensation is dependent on experience and agreed upon time commitment.

 

Length of Term: 12 months minimum, with the opportunity to discuss continuation at the end of year point.

 

 

 

Responsibilities:

 

1.       Lead mHealth partnership cultivation and management

 

·        Lead Maternity Foundation on strategic relationship cultivation and management with ministries of health, UN agencies and NGOs in priority countries.

·        In more detail this will consist of promotion of relationship building by: (a) identifying key contacts and ensuring good relationships with potential and existing strategic partners and (b) maintaining existing and building new relationships with strategic partners.

·        Drive the strategic process to develop a model to successfully launch the Safe Delivery App at national level in several countries.

·        Drive the development of a blueprint, toolbox and country strategic plans in close collaboration with the mHealth Managers and Coordinator.

·        Lead, drive and coordinate the launch and stakeholder gathering of/ to support the app in a number of countries.

·        Facilitate effective communication between relevant partners and stakeholders

·        Provide technical support to partners in their project activities- i.e. resource mobilization, model documentation, program design, implementation, and evaluation

·        Support reporting to and communication with key funders; provide strategic input into potential funding opportunities.

 

2.       Drive mobile health strategy

·        Provide strategic and technical direction for Maternity Foundation’s mHealth portfolio.

·        Support development of sustainable business model in close collaboration with the CEO, consultant(s) and mHealth Team.

·        Support the strategic approach to sustainability through coordination of research on issues, countries, partners and competitors and market intelligence gathering.

 

3.       Support global learning efforts

·        Together with the rest of the mHealth Competency Center, synthesize and communicate learning and insights (e.g. best practices, challenges, lessons learned, etc.) from qualitative and quantitative data analysis.

 

4.       Other duties as necessary and assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

·        Master’s degree in public health or equivalent advanced degree

·        Minimum 5 years relevant professional experience with an emphasis on maternal and child health and partnership coordination/ management

·        Proven track recording in building, managing relationships with ministries of health in LMICs highly desirable

·        Experience with mHealth health interventions highly desirable

·        Excellent communications and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal, including ability to effectively communicate across cultures

·        Experience and ability in capacity building and the provision of technical support in MCHN

·        Must show initiative, be able to work independently, be a team player and demonstrate strong leadership skills

·        Must be able and willing to travel internationally (approximately 40 days per year)
