Dear Friends:
Yesterday, I appeared on Canada's favorite Christian talk-show, 100 Huntley Street, near Toronto, Ontario. I had the privilege of performing "Never Mistake" live with Canadian Recording Artist, Kevin Pauls. Kevin's is the wonderful male voice on my radio single that is climbing inspirational country radio charts now. Kevin and I recorded the song separately and had never (ever) sung together before yesterday! What a treat that was! I also had the chance to chat with Moira Brown on the couch during the program. You can view the whole segment at:
The week leading up to yesterday' appearance was full of unexpected, not to mention incovenienct, circumstances! Thanks to a major storm that ravaged parts of the US, including Columbus, OH, my family was without power for the 6 days leading up to my departure for Canada. Getting a family ready to leave the country for 2 weeks is often a logistical and organizational challenge, but doing it without electricity in temperatures near 100 degrees fareinheit, challenged me in every way! We spent two nights in two different hotels, and then two nights with my in-laws who live around the corner from us (their power was restored early!). I left on Thursday, July 5th, with my two boys and headed to Ontario. We arrived safely and checked into the hotel provided to us by 100 Huntley Street. We enjoyed a dip in the pool, dinner, and an early bed time. At 1:30 in the morining, I was awoken by the loudest alarm I'd ever heard. After taking a moment or two to process what was going on, it became clear that it was a fire alarm and that we needed to vacate the building. I picked up my sobbing six year old (who had just learned about the dangers of fire at a safety camp a couple weeks ago) and woke my oldest who was unphased by the alarm, and we headed down the stairs and out the building to the parking lot. There were already about 100 people gathered there, a fire truck tuck, and firefighters in uniform. After the hotel was thoroughly checked, we were let back in around 2:00 am. My alarm went off 3 hours later to prepare for the show! Not exactly the beauty sleep I'd been hoping for, but God's grace was sufficient. The show went well and God kept my nerves at bay and allowed me to speak and sing from the heart. It was a real joy to finally get to chat with 100 Huntley's Founder, David Mainse. He's a man of God and filled with such faith, vision, and joy--even amidst difficult health circumstances.
After the show and a visit with Kevin and Roy (pianist), the boys and I braved Toronto traffic on a Friday in July! We arrived safely at my parents' home in Shawville Quebec around 6:45 pm.
I'm singing a couple songs tomorrow at my parents' church and then the next 10 days will be LAZY!! Looking forward to this time of no agenda and just being with my kids and parents.
