URGENT ALERT
KARAPATAN: Five paralegals arrested during protest at Luzon Economic Forum

Five paralegals were arrested this morning during protests at the Investors Forum of the Luzon Economic Forum at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City.

Three paralegals — Jona Yang, Kenneth Castor (not Castro as earlier), and Mara Peralta — were arrested during the police dispersal and brought to the Tuktukan Police Station.

At the police station, two other paralegals who were with legal counsel to assist those arrested were likewise subjected to arrest. They are Daya Juliano and RC Placido.

KARAPATAN condemns these arbitrary arrests as a clear violation of the people’s right to peaceful protest, particularly on the urgent and burning issue of the Pax Silica initiative in the Philippines.

We urgently appeal to the media for coverage.
