Duterte Panagutin Network on the ICC Pre-Trial Chamber’s Postponement of the Hearing on the Confirmation of Charges vs Rodrigo Duterte
While we respect the International Criminal Court Pre-Trial Chamber’s decision to postpone the hearing on the confirmation of charges against former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, we cannot hide our deep disappointment at yet another delay in justice. The decision, granted following a request from the Defence Counsel of Duterte, once again postpones long-awaited accountability.
For years, Duterte unleashed his wave of violence, first in Davao, then across the Philippine nation. We are disheartened that the confirmation of charges against those most responsible for the thousands of killings remains unresolved, leaving victims and their families in painful uncertainty.
We stand in unwavering solidarity with all victims of extrajudicial killings. Today, we renew our call for government officials and ordinary citizens alike to cry out for justice, the rule of law, accountability and for our nation’s commitment to fundamental human rights.
Duterte Panagutin networks in the Philippines and in Europe will push through with the networks’ activities in the run-up to September 21 and September 23, with corresponding adjustments. We will not relent in the struggle for justice and accountability.
