COORDINATED PROTEST ACTIONS VS TERROR LAW
In Metro Manila, various organizations will hold a protest action, in time for the Department of National Defense budget hearing at 9:30am, South gate, House of Representatives, Batasan Road, Quezon City.
Protest actions will also be conducted in Cavite, Laguna, Rizal, Quezon, Baguio, Cebu, Iloilo and Davao.
The protest action will highlight the opposition of human rights and various groups against the use of the Anti-Terrorism Law (Republic Act No. 11479) and the Terrorism Financing and Suppression Act (Republic Act No. 10168) in stifling dissent and in violating basic rights and civil liberties.
Among the recent victims of the said laws are community journalists, indigenous and peasant leaders in Southern Tagalog, Cordillera, and Mindanao, young human rights defenders in Southern Tagalog, church leaders and workers in Southern Tagalog, Bohol, Davao and Northern Mindanao as well as those from the Rural Missionaries of the Philippines.
The rally will also demand the scrapping of confidential and intelligence funds in the General Appropriations Act. The groups will likewise denounce the increased budget for militarization that enables human rights and international humanitarian law violations.
