CARMMA to Marcos: Pay ₱203 billion estate taxes, return all stolen public funds amid econ crisis
The Campaign Against the Return of the Marcoses and Martial Law (CARMMA) renews its demand for the Marcoses to pay their estate tax obligations of ₱203 billion and return all their ill-gotten wealth amid one of the worst economic crises to hit the country.
With gasoline prices averaging ₱90 per liter and diesel prices breaching the ₱100 per liter mark, hikes in transport fares and prices of basic goods and services loom, spelling more hardships for low and middle income Filipinos.
Returning the Marcoses’ ₱203 billion estate tax liability and around US$10 billion in public funds plundered by this kleptocratic family will go a long way in augmenting government monies for badly needed social services.
Ferdinand Marcos Jr., however, made it his mission to recover his family’s ill-gotten assets sequestered by the government as soon as he took the reins of power. A total of 28 criminal cases and 43 civil and forfeiture cases have been filed against the Marcoses at the Sandiganbayan from 1986 to 1995. Seven have been dismissed, all during Marcos Jr.’s watch as president. In 2023, the Sandiganbayan dismissed two ill-gotten wealth cases against the Marcoses ostensibly for lack of evidence.
CARMMA denounces this despicable pattern of Marcosian greed, especially in the face of the Filipino people’s abject suffering.
We call on the various sectors in Philippine society to link arms as we air our demands for accountability and economic justice through the nationwide transport strike on March 19 to 20.
Sa mga Marcos: Bayaran niyo ang inyong ₱209-bilyong utang na estate tax! Isoli niyo ang ninakaw niyo!
