CARMMA: Fake news peddlers have no place in a modern and democratic society, and they include the Marcoses
We agree with you, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.: fake news should have no place in modern society — but might we also add, so are its peddlers. Indeed, there should be no place in a modern and democratic society for people who spew lies, especially those who distort and falsify history to whitewash their crimes against the Filipino people. In short: look who’s talking?
President Marcos Jr. perhaps needs a mirror to remind himself how he and his family have regurgitated the same lies over the years to deny the atrocities and how they bled dry the nation’s coffers during their family’s martial rule and fascist dictatorship. We don’t even have to look that far to refresh in our memory how the president himself cheated his way to his sham “victory” in the last elections by deploying a massive campaign of online disinformation: both Twitter and Facebook have taken down pro-Marcos networks for engaging in coordinated inauthentic behavior, and numerous studies clearly show how the Marcoses were the main beneficiaries of online disinformation during the elections.
Therefore, for the purposes of truth-telling, we reiterate the following facts: the Marcoses lied to the Filipino people; the Marcoses stole from the Filipino people; and the Marcoses brazenly violated the rights of the Filipino people — and to this day, they continue to do so with sheer impunity. Any refusal to admit these facts makes the Marcoses and their allies and minions peddlers of fake news, and they should therefore have no place in a modern and democratic society. ###
