Human rights groups will hold a protest at the Department of National Defense against the recent bombings and militarization in Abra de Ilog, Occidental Mindoro, following a large-scale military operation conducted by the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) on January 1, 2026.
The military operations targeted farming and Indigenous communities, resulting in:
* The forced displacement of 188 families (769 individuals)
*The death of Jerlyn Rose Doydora, a youth researcher living with farmers and Indigenous communities
* The deaths of three Mangyan-Iraya children due to bombings
* One youth researcher, Chantal Anicoche, is currently reported missing while living with Mangyan Indigenous communities
Rights groups decried the following cases as violations of human rights and International Humanitarian Law (IHL).
From January to November 2025, there were 119 recorded cases of human rights violations in Mindoro, affecting 16,733 individuals, including a series of aerial bombings in Pola, Mansalay, and Baco.
The protesters demand an immediate end to bombings, militarization, and state terrorism in Mindoro, and call for accountability and justice for the victims.
