#Dasurb: Marcos Jr.’s loss in UNSC elections shows continuous reeking of his fascist, US puppet stench

The Marcos Jr. regime has miserably lost its bid to become one of the US’ rah-rah boys in the UN Security Council when it failed to win a seat as a non-permanent member, an ambitious, narcissistic deodorant project on which it spent millions in dollars since it began lobbying for it in 2023.

Marcos Jr.’s loss at the UN Security Council shows that no matter his aggressive PR campaign to distance himself from his dictator-father’s notoriety, his regime’s stench continues to reek in the international community -- his record as the foremost US puppet in Asia, his government’s outrageous corruption and his State forces’ depravity born out of its subservience to a US-driven counter-insurgency program.

The Marcos Jr. regime had launched its bid to be in a more prominent position to support its US master on key security issues such as the US-Israeli genocidal war in Gaza, the US’ rivalry with China for supremacy in the Asia-Pacific, as well as the US’ drive to seize control over countries rich in oil and rare earth minerals.

Marcos Jr.’s obedience to US dictates had already earned him praise from US Defense Secretary Peter Hegseth who cited his regime for focusing further on “external defense” and interoperability with US military forces and for significantly hiking its defense budget.

Hegseth’s “good words” for the US’ obedient puppet came with criticism for other US allies who have not been spending as much on security as the US wants them to.

The Marcos Jr. regime and the rest of the ruling class expected to be granted favors in exchange for being such “good boys” to their US master.

But having lost its ambitious bid to Kyrgyzstan, which garnered 142 votes to the Philippines’ 49, the Marcos Jr. regime has lost a platform for its brazen hypocrisy on the Philippines’ dirt-and-grime human rights record. It has used the UN and the international stage to whitewash the regime’s violations of human rights and international humanitarian law before the world, especially amid the violations of international humanitarian law that attended the massacre of 10 NPA hors de combat and nine civilians in Toboso, Negros Occidental on April 16, 2026. The Marcos Jr. regime has also come under fire for other serious rights violations marking its brutal counter-insurgency war that has seen numerous bombings, killings of civilians, enforced disappearances and other abuses.

KARAPATAN welcomes the Marcos Jr. comeuppance with this most deserved rejection by the international community. It will continue to work even harder with people’s organizations in denouncing the Marcos Jr. regime’s rank hypocrisy and exposing and condemning its corruption, fascism and puppetry before the world.
