On the remarks of some senators that cases related to EJK should be tried in PH

Families of victims of extrajudicial killings who are resolved in seeking justice for their loved ones have exerted more than enough efforts to go after perpetrators in the Philippines.

However, the good senators should be the ones to know that the justice system in the country failed the victims. Despite the thousands in number of victims in the Duterte drug war, a measly handful reached the courts. DOJ secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla himself said that the local justice system is weak to prosecute Rodrigo Duterte.

Filing charges at the ICC is the victims' last recourse in seeking justice. They have all the right and reason to hold accountable those who stripped them, and their killed relatives, of the right to due process, to life and to rights.

We can only hope that the good senators also know that to support the victims is also to deny protection from those who were accessory and with direct involvement in the mass murder of Filipinos during the time of Duterte. Let them face the courts, because the victims killed were never given the chance to do so.
