MEDIA ADVISORY

FOR JULY 18, 2026

"Mga kurakot ikulong, bilanggong pulitikal palayain!"

LAYA campaign calls to jail the corrupt, free all political prisoners in time for Marcos Jr.'s 5th SONA

18 July 2026 (Saturday)

10:00 AM – 12:00 NN

2nd Floor, Bocobo Hall, UP Law Center, University of the Philippines Diliman, QC

Quezon City — "Isang taon na ang flood control, sino na ang nakakulong? Sila dapat kinakasuhan at nananagot, hindi ang mga aktibista at ordinaryong mamamayan. Palayain ang mga bilanggong pulitikal!"

This is the unified call of rights organization KARAPATAN, together with SELDA, families and friends of political prisoners, people's organizations, church groups, artists, and advocates, in today's launch of LAYA: A Campaign for the Release of All Political Prisoners in the Philippines, more than a week before the president's 5th State of the Nation Address (SONA).

The event will also feature the launch of Pansamantalang Mundo: Akda ng mga Kababaihang  Bilanggong Pulitikal (2024–2026), published by Paper Trail Projects and KARAPATAN. The anthology gathers poems and writings by women political prisoners, offering a powerful glimpse into their lives, struggles, hopes, and unwavering commitment despite imprisonment.

The program will include messages and a powerhouse of performances from former and current political prisoners, relatives and defenders, and organizations supporting the campaign.

Media representatives are invited to cover the event.
