Hustisya on Vice President Sara Duterte's Remarks

We, at Hustisya, vehemently condemn the recent remarks made by Vice President Sara Duterte regarding the communist insurgency in the Philippines. Her characterization of the decades-long struggle as a dying movement not only displays a profound lack of understanding but also undermines the complex realities faced by our nation.

The assertion that the war against the New People's Army (NPA) is nearing its end oversimplifies a deeply rooted issue that demands a comprehensive and inclusive approach. It dismisses the underlying causes that have fueled the insurgency, such as systemic poverty, social inequality, human rights violations, and the marginalization of impoverished communities. These pressing concerns cannot be ignored or brushed aside with such sweeping statements.

The resolution of the communist insurgency in the Philippines is not merely a matter of time or military might; it is a socio-political problem that requires a multi-faceted solution. True resolution can only be achieved through genuine efforts to address the root causes of the armed conflict, engage in dialogue, and work towards a just and lasting peace for all Filipinos.

Rather than prematurely celebrating an end to the struggle, our focus should be on finding ways to prevent further bloodshed and ensuring accountability for human rights abuses.

We call upon Vice President Sara Duterte, as a public servant, to approach this issue with sensitivity and a deeper understanding of the complexities involved. It is essential for leaders to promote a culture of dialogue, respect for human rights and inclusivity, rather than resorting to divisive rhetoric that undermines the prospects for lasting peace.

We stand in solidarity with the marginalized communities affected by the armed conflict, and we reiterate our commitment to the pursuit of justice, human rights and peace. We call on the government to adopt a holistic and inclusive approach, engaging all stakeholders in a meaningful dialogue to address the root causes of the armed conflict and ensure a future free from violence and oppression.

Let us work together towards a society where the voices of the marginalized are heard, their grievances addressed, and their rights respected.###
