Karapatan’s Cristina Palabay on the reported indirect contempt case vs her, Sen. Leila de Lima, et. al.
I just read the news about the case of indirect contempt filed today by Atty. Ferdinand Topacio against Sen. Leila de Lima and her legal counsels, Rep. Edcel Lagman, Sen. Risa Hontiveros, Bayan’s Renato Reyes and me.
Amid this harassment suit, I reiterate Karapatan’s support for the call for Sen. de Lima’s immediate release. We will always remain steadfast in calling for her release and for all political prisoners unjustly imprisoned.
Atty. Topacio himself should know that there are far more important issues for the country's seriously backlogged courts to address. Dumping such frivolous cases on the courts is a waste of precious time and resources, and is, by itself, indicative of Atty. Topacio's contemptuous regard for the country's justice system.
