On the DILG-Marcos Jr. administration's Oplan Galugad

The Campaign Against the Return of the Marcoses and Martial Law (CARMMA) vehemently condemns the current saturation drives to enforce local ordinances against going shirtless in the streets, karaoke singing after 10 p.m. and imposing a 10 p.m. curfew on minors. More than 5,000 persons have already been arrested in these saturation drives reminiscent of the “zoning operations” under Ferdinand Marcos Sr.’s martial law.

The current saturation drives are obviously anti-poor, spreading terror and targeting residents of impoverished neighborhoods. “I believe that so-called Oplan Galugad can easily graduate to Oplan Sauron-type actions that are ostensibly anti-criminality operations but are actually counter-insurgency operations targeting activists who are later arrested or killed and falsely portrayed as NPA,” said CARMMA convenor Kris Lacaba.

“This is certainly what Marcos Sr. did with his ‘zoning operations’ that were supposed to target criminal elements but were used to ferret out activists and community organizers in urban poor areas,” he added.

“The timing is also suspect,” said Lacaba, “and it seems this is being done to divert the people’s attention from today’s burning issues, including the US- and Israel-instigated war against Iran. The huge crisis that this war has spawned has agitated the people to demand decisive measures from the Marcos Jr. regime such as scuttling excise and value added taxes on oil, demands that have not been granted by the regime.”

“These saturation drives betray the Marcos Jr. regime’s lopsided priorities,” added Lacaba. “Ang daming korap na nangurakot ng trilyon-trilyong piso pero maliliit na tao na lumabag sa mga ordinansa ang pinag-iinitan,” he fumed.

“Oplan Galugad shows that Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is indeed his dictator-father’s son.”
