B-10 reads: Severely limited; 12 to 14 and not 14 if good 6-card suit. Could be 5-card suit; if 6 cards, a terrible suit or a terrible hand.

We have 14 HCP, all of them working. AJ9xxx is not a "terrible suit". 16.00 KnR is a full K above minimum, so not a "terrible hand".

To me, it's a clear 2C rebid.

I'd rebid 2C, but I wouldn't complain if partner chose 2D.

Change the D6 to the D8, and 2C would feel "clear".

I doubt that the CCCC 16.0 holds facing the 1S response. Remember that the base count is 321 for honors and also 321 for shortness. The usefulness of the spade singleton has to be reduced.

Kaplan wrote that the valuation changes significantly during the auction, but gave only glimpses.

This quote from KSU does raise some questions. The range for 2D with 14 is both ‘not a good’ and ‘terrible’ suit. It seems to leave out the ‘OK’ suits, like this one.

I think I’m on the opposite side of Christopher’s view: the stiff spade makes me a 2D, but I wouldn’t mind if my partner chose 2C. I even agree that the 8 would change my mind. But I’m usually not too aggressive.

I'm on the fence with everyone else. My C4 calculator gives 15.85
(copied below), which would normally be plenty for 2C, but the singleton
spade is a negative. On the other hand, it won't take much from
responder for diamonds to come in for six tricks, and I see two more in
clubs, so 3NT is not far away. Vul at IMPs inclines me to be less
aggressive as opener because responder will be more aggressive, but your
style on that may differ. I think I'd go for 2C but wouldn't criticize
2D. The usual odds don't apply because 3NT could be down a lot of
tricks, maybe doubled, if diamonds don't come in. Maybe 2D is right.
