LHO deals and passes. Partner opens 1NT (12-14), passed to you. Pass or bid 2NT?

I take the low road. 2N is a sound invite and this isnt. Also, NV, partner may be a bit lighter.

You can consult with Edgar's shade to see how he'd have evaluated the hand:

K&R (J85 Q64 AT75 KJ6) = 9.40, so not close to an invite.

I suggest always including K&R evaluations for question like this.

Good reminder,  Adam. I did that and should have mentioned.

While KnR was intended for opener's a priori decisions, it's also useful when raising NT with a notrumpy hand.

Pavlichek's summary here http://www.rpbridge.net/8j19.htm provides a straightforward algorithm that can be used ATT (with practice).

Even if I'd agreed to play 2NT as invitational, I'd never use it at
IMPs. No hand is likely to make exactly 8 tricks, and the risk of going
set in 2NT outweighs the gain of making 3NT. Therefore the choice is
pass or 3NT. (I agree with pass on J85 Q64 AT75 KJ6.)

At matchpoints, the simulations I've seen say that 2NT is worthwhile
only with hands that evaluate to 8.4 or 8.6. I'm afraid I've forgotten
who did the simulations, but they seemed credible to me.
