Mainstream Media

Media is hopping. Ben Singer just had this op-ed in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch:

We've recently done press interviews in Jefferson City and Columbia. All this is up on our Media Coverage page.

Note that we have yet to find a single opinion piece favoring Amendment 7, and the last check shows there's no campaign committee for it. There may yet be an onslaught of pro-7 advocacy, but there's no sign of it yet.

Social Media

We've just added to our Spreading the Word page links a couple dozen tweets. Those who like to share and amplify tweets can look over the topics and see which ones you'd like to get going with. We also put them right here:'

Yard Signs

We have the yard signs. Those in Kansas City: we'll have them handy at our booth at the PeaceWorks Art Fair this weekend. Those in St. Louis: Austin Brown has a set. Those in Columbia: Paul Lehmann will soon have a set. Those in other parts of the state: Let Rachel know if you need a set and she can send them to you.

The Kansas City Star makes a good case for a no vote:

The Star’s endorsement on Missouri Amendment 7 on voting, by the Editorial Board, October 10, 2024

We've recently had interviews air in Columbia and a report on Channel 41 in Kansas City. We expect to have more coming in thick and fast as the election approaches; we keep the list with links on our Media Coverage page.

Reminders

We have a page on our website for spreading the word.

Plus another on writing letters to the editor

We have the yard signs as well as cards to distribute in Kansas City, St. Louis, and Columbia.

Kansas City: pick up at any time during daylight hours from the front porch at 811 Cleaver II Blvd. (used to be East 47th Street). Because a bike path with curb is in front of the house, parking is best on the north side of Campbell; the house is on the south side of Cleaver II.

St. Louis: Austin Brown 314-374-1431

Columbia: Peter Schneeberger 573-529-5475

Elsewhere in Missouri, UPS will usually get it there by the next day; order from Rachel MacNair at 816-753-2057.

 Vote NO
Updates:

        * Kansas City Council Member Wes Rogers, who has agreed to sponsor a bill to put on a later ballot for KC having ranked choice voting in its city elections once political conditions are favorable, has an excellent op-ed in today's Kansas City Star:

If you'd like to put a comment under the piece, that will then get more info out and show that there's interest in the topic. There's already a pro-7 comment there being responded to in other comments.

         *  And as we mentioned before, the Star has endorsed a no vote:

Ditto about putting comments in.

         *  Meanwhile, the pro-7 side (which still has no campaign committee) has finally done two things:

1. On October 10, they held a press conference in Jefferson City with Andrew Bailey, attorney general currently and running for re-election, and Vivek Malek, running for state treasurer. Just those two. As balance, we got a good press interview out of it. Then there was a report on just the press conference in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Googling didn't find me any other coverage.

2. There's a report that they did a poll in September and found 68% supporting Amendment 7. Ironically, I was one of those polled by text, so I have screenshots of all the A7-related questions.

We're intending to send out a press release soon documenting that this was a "push poll" -- that is, rather than actually asking for opinions, it gives people pro-7 arguments and pretends to give anti-7 arguments (but those aren't as good as the arguments we actually make). So it's arguing people into a yes answer rather than finding out what they really think. It's therefore utterly useless for predicting the vote outcome.

Once I've gotten the press release out to everyone with its documentation, I'll forward this list a copy. We can show that, just like the ballot candy, they're not acting with unimpeachable integrity.
