 Vote NO
on MO Amendment 7

For those interested in the bureaucracy of it all: Preserve Local Elections is now registered with the Missouri Election Commission as an official campaign committee opposing Amendment 7. There may be other campaign committees that do the same, but it's quite likely that we'll be the Missouri-based one. Other Missouri groups that oppose Amendment 7 have it as one of several stands they take in the election, so they'll do a lot of good, but not need a separate campaign committee just for this amendment.

The primary election is next Tuesday, August 6, and while we'll have good leafleting throughout the fall, this is the one occasion where we know we're getting Missouri voters highly likely to vote in November.

For Kansas City

I'll be available for people to come pick up the leaflets and bumper stickers, and to chat about our experience about the best way to go about it and any more questions about ranked choice voting anyone has, on Sunday afternoon from 1 PM to 6 PM and on Monday from 9 AM to 8 PM. Outside those hours and on Tuesday, the leaflets, bumper stickers and sign-up sheets will still be available for pick-up on a table on my front porch:

811 Emanuel Cleaver II Boulevard (used to be East 47th Street)
no driveway; best parking on Campbell on the north side.
we currently have roadwork being done, so the street looks funny and there are orange cones, but this shouldn't interfere with the practicalities of getting to my house.

On Tuesday I'm planning to leaflet at Resurrection Brookside Church, 5144 Oak Street. I'll have plenty of extra material with me, so slipping by there to pick up some cards and/or bumper stickers will work.

I can also be called all day with any questions or comments at 816-753-2057. Just remember that at that point I'm prioritizing the voters coming out of the poll.

For Missouri outside KC

These are the people who also have lit in other areas, and if you live there, you can make arrangements with them::

St. Louis area - Austin Brown, 314-1431,

Springfield area - Darlene Steele, text 417-221-5245

Otherwise, if you need them sent by speedy mail, please let me know today so I can get you in to the post office trip by late afternoon today so you have them by Monday.

I'm available until 8 PM today at my house (directions below) and at Resurrection Brookside Church as my the poll I'm covering tomorrow (5144 Oak) where I'll have materials. The cards and bumper stickers are on a table on my front porch and so can be picked up at any time.

Several of use will cover polls all day or a few hours, but if you just want to grab a handful and pass out for a few minutes after you vote, that will also help. And of course have them also on hand to pass out to your friends.

Friends --

An election official who has had animosity toward ranked choice voting and made that clear the second I first met her several years ago has now banned me from even passing out leaflets at any polling place under her jurisdiction in Kansas City, declaring that I had been disruptive.

Therefore, picking up lit from me at the polling place won't be workable. I'll have to find a spot in one of the suburbs to go to, and there I'll simply pass out leaflets, no lit table.

Meanwhile, just today the construction on my street started in earnest right in front of my house. You can still get to the porch to pick up literature, but it will involve saying hi cheerfully to the workers and taking care not to step where they don't want you to.

This along with the legislature imposing a November ballot measure on us, which we had already tried to avoid since we'll be drowned out by other issues and candidates. They're not making it easy on us.
