Hi!

Saturday, May the 4th (2pm, plaza library large meeting room) is our next scheduled R meeting.

All I have to show is baby pictures, anybody have an interesting R topic to share?

I am collecting fitbit sleep data, but I'm too busy to analyze it yet...

Baby pictures will be cute. I hope mother and child have been doing well.

What about discussion of Singular Value Decomposition (SVD) from information from two coursera classes, "Data Analysis" and "Computational Methods for Data Analysis"?  SVD is related to PCA, but I think it can give more information.  SVD seems like the first tool to use with any set of microarray experiments.

Prof. Nathan Kutz concluded his class by saying "May you SVD happily for the rest of your life" <g>.

Or, a somewhat more mundane topic might be using horizontal boxplots (instead of vertical) when category names are fairly long.

Attached are some notes about "Using Singular Value Decomposition to Select Predictor Variables for Linear Discriminant Analysis," if anyone wants to discuss this at the meeting today.

These notes are based on a homework assignment a month or two back in the coursera "Data Analysis" class.
