Well this was a rather dystopian article. Did you ghost write it G? 

Basically it says that Olympic champions get co-opted by politicians. And it will be worse when the summer games are mostly in real time. The article is so dour that it suggests that US athletes might want to tank, so as to NOT get an invite the White House. 

Ah, for the good old days, like 1936. The games were so  PURE back then.

Politics can't poison MY Olympics. Vance is a douche, but of course a VP should be there celebrating our athletes. Patel is a douche, but I'd be drinking and celebrating with the hockey team if i had the ways and means. Trump wants to give a freedom medal to Hellebuyck?? So the hell did I after that performance.  Vance said that he would HOPE that athletes who live and breath and train and eat and sleep in the US would want to represent this country...nothing controversial about that...i wish they would too, even if they have the right not to if they have other parental heritage.

Naw......the Olympics offer two weeks where even this ardent cynic goes into his own patriotic shell that can't be pierced.  I miss them already.

Good to know G. Good attitude. Sports is sports. It can only be tarnished if you let it. 

The author of the article must be more dystopian that even you are. 

Vance might be right about what he said; but he's still a douche when he says it. Somehow he'd be a douche if he told us that the sun comes  up in the East every morning. 

As for Patel, that's a tempest in a teapot. The only issue with him is that he was there on OUR dime. He was supposed to be doing something FBI-ish. If he had paid for the trip it would be a genuine NADA-burger. 

The Medal of Freedom for ONE hockey performance? Meh. IMO it cheapens the award just a bit. 

I was goalie in med school in a broomball league. We played a team that had three really good skaters with hockey experience. I made like 37 saves. Someone was counting. I didn't get any medal for MY performance. But then Trump was taking out full page ads impugning innocent teenagers and calling for their execution. No time to give out awards.
