Nothing new to report here, really.
Except I have now had wings at two places and really like them. I'd always thought that barbecue meant ribs, burnt ends and brisket, with the occasional sausage.
But the wings at Q39 are quite good; and I just had wings at Jack Stack. Trying to lower my calorie intake. The JS wings were Cajun, slightly spicy, but good.
I know it's a Kansas sacrilege; but I've kinda soured on barbecue. Still smells great; but it sits heavy on my stomach sometimes. Wings are a nice change of pace.

Here is a subject I could talk about ad nauseum :)

So I also decided awhile back to give wings a try at a couple of BBQ restaurants...something I would normally never do. Oh don't get me wrong, i love chicken wings, but i usually reserve those for times when i'm stuck at a BW3 or some other bar and grille where wings seem like the safest bet. Or of course when i'm at the PEanut where wings are quite the experience.

So i also ordered wings from Q39...and man, my experience was different. Over sauced whole wings that....yeah, the meat was fine...but I didn't really notice anything different from other wings joints. I guess i expected a more flavorful, smokey wing...instead I got wings absolutely COATED in sauce that was not particularly standout.  Someone told me the wings at Minsky's were exceptional. So i tried those...exact same experience. Just oversauced wings with little else to set them apart.

Just the other day I had a wing from Scott's kitchen and hangar, that place out by the airport that people rave about for one reason or another....and again....ok, yeah it was a wing, and it was fine but......meh?

So I'm back to thinking what I always thought: There is no solid reason to order chicken wings from a BBQ joint. Save that for times when yer stuck at ordinary pubs.

So now I must make my obligatory plug: The next time you crave REAL BBQ (not chicken wings), head to Wolfpack in columbus park, just north of downtown. Get the ribs. Best in town.

Best wings I have had in the last year were at Longhorn Steak house.

Be nice, even when you don't want to!

Never heard of Wolfpack. Is Columbus Park this side of the Mo River or north of it?
When I got wings at Q, they weren't heavily sauced.
The ones at Jack Stack had hardly any sauce. Worth a shot if you have spare $18 on hand.
The reason I tried the JS wings was to lower the calorie/fat intake. Turned out pretty good.

I found Wolfpack's location. They get 4.7 stars. I saw that they have CHICKEN on the menu. Have to give it a try.

You sure you were looking at the right menu....? I don't recall them ever having chicken on the menu. They do have wings, but c'mon.....get some burnt ends or ribs....it's BBQ man!

I tell anyone who will listen that Wolfpack is consistently putting out better ribs than anyone else in the city right now.....Slaps, Joes, Stack....anyone. I get funny looks and "yeah, rights"...until they try it.

The chicken comment was snark. Apparently it worked. Their menu had a  pic of a whole chicken.
OF COURSE I'd be trying the ribs and ends. Those are my go-to pieces. The chicken was an Ozempic thing, that's all.
Just had some Q-39. The brisket was dry; not their normal. The ribs had grill marks on them; never seen that before. Color me "meh".
Wolfpack here I come.

Last couple of times i had ribs at Q39 they were "meh" at best. Dry, no smoke, tiny, etc.

I get that BBQ is an art, not a science, but i'll be eating elsewhere for a while.

Let me know how the Wolfpack experience goes.

I said Q39 is overrated long time ago.

I've had good meals there. First few times i went there, ribs were quite good, their chicken is amazing.

It's still the best BBQd chicken in town but...well.....it's just chicken so *shrug*

But you're right, G. Their wings ARE good. And the brisket WAS always so tender. Not as smoky as I like. And these ribs with grill marks? Looks like it was done on a backyard Weber.
Looking forward to trying Wolfpack.
