This is a seriously bullshit article. But it fits the current Trump doctrine regarding foreign policy.
"We are a superpower. Time to start acting like it".
So the author points out that foreign policy should transcend right and wrong. We don't need to be "polite" about asserting our needs.
What bullshit. How sure am I that he's full of shit? Because he pointed our his idiocy himself.
His words: we have a base in Okinawa. Yes we do. And we didn't "take" the island by force or purchase. In fact, after we DID occupy it after WWII, we gave it back to the citizens. So that's one strike against taking Greenland. We also have a huge military base in Turkey, Incirlik. We don't occupy Turkey; nor did we conquer it. We also have bases in Qatar, Kuwait, the UAE and Bahrain. Not conquest needed.
So the author is full of shit, as is the Trump admin
So instead of threatening takeover in an attempt to coerce some sweet deal, why not just increase our current presence. Let Greenland/Denmark rule the island like they do today; and negotiate a military presence like we've done all over the world for 80 years.
And stop knocking over more China in your shop, Trump. The world doesn't see you (us US) as great, just a clumsy bully.
