Turns out that there are several thousand IRISH who came to the US when Ireland was having serious economic problems. Like in the early'80's. Many have overstayed their visas, whatever, and are subject to deportation. It's interesting that the Irish community, those here legally, are NOT entirely supportive of these  people.
So BK, what do you do now? If you try to get "browner" you may get confused with a Latino. As a fair-skinned Euro, though, now you might get profiled as possibly Irish.
Finally, at last, it pays to be Black or look Jewish. OUR time to shine.
Papers, please.

Correct, I did not. When people start to impose on you, then you are free to fuck with them.

Why do you see the need to initiate the fuckery with others who have NOTHING to do with you?

I don't have an immigrant problem. And its disingenuous for you to phrase it that way. Many of the people I work with every day are legal immigrants and all of them want the illegals to get out and get in line to come the legal way like they did.
That's the real solution.  Secure the border and make legal immigration safe and relatively easy for good people to come to this country. I'm sorry you have swallowed the nazi rhetoric hook line and sinker.

I'd rather posit some guesses. Here are some of my favorites...most were one timers:

Troy McClure  (Smellin' of Troy!)
Frank Grimes  (Lives beneath a bowling alley and above another bowling alley)
Carl the Secretary  (My mother told me never to kiss a fool!)
Mr. Bergstrom  (Actually, there were quite a few jewish cowboys)
Leon Kapowski (A bricklayer from brooklyn....)
Lyle Langley (Mono = one....Rail = rail)

I'm sure i'm forgetting a hundred others....gimme a hint!

Brian, amidst all this Simpson's nostalgia, you bring up a couple of points.
Since you could pass for Irish, you are potentially a candidate to have your citizenship questioned.
So now "don't be illegal" becomes more than an existential problem for you. So what do YOU carry that keeps you from being detained for 2-3 days in some god-forsaken hellhole while the agents laugh about it? Your DL, or CDL won't carry any weight. You know that illegals get commercial creds; you've seem them driving. I know they get regular DL's; just go to the DMV any day and see them lined up.
So, this is good. What used to be a problem for "them" becomes a problem for YOU. Now you're involved. So now answers actually matter to you. So far all you do is dodge, call others names and call for a border wall.
As for letting homeless people live in my basement, that's just a straw man argument. It's like the argument that you post to Liberals who have a bit of money. You tell them to give away their money to help balance the budget or what ever. But those are just bullshit debate tools.
So stop being a tool and tell us what YOU will do if ICE thinks you might be an illegal Irish immigrant.

Dave, they have makeup that will cover the freckles. And you can dye the hair.
And lose the accent.
Why does Irish bean soup have only 239 beans? If it had more it would be two farty.

Why funny? And why not just answer the question put to you.
How will you prove  your legit citizenship if asked? And will you find it funny if ICE agents take you in for questioning to make sure that you aren't an illegally present Irishman? Will you find it funny if DF gets taken in?
I'm guessing that G is getting progressively disgusted with your constant dodging of simple issues.
Again, how do YOU prove that you aren't Irish and here on an expired work visa? And why we're asking, would you be "NOT AFRAID" if confronted on the street?
Or do those wadded panties get just a little tighter (or wetter)?

I've been stopped by ICE DHS and Border Patrol before it was no big deal. I'm not here illegally I have nothing to worry about. Occasionally someone might make a mistake. Of course if that happens the TDS infected will claim see that could happen to anyone. Well lots of things can happen to anyone. You could get killed while trying to run over an ICE agent with your car. You could be arrested for a murder you didn't commit. You could find yourself in the middle of a gun fight between 2 street gangs. You could get hit by lighting on a sunny Sunday afternoon. I suppose if you want to live in fear of something that will probably never happen to you, we'll its s free country you can if you want to. I'm sorry if me not being frightened of something that most likely won't happen frightens you, but its not my problem its yours.

Once I retire, I plan to road trip a bit. If I am stopped at an immigration checkpoint on this side of the boarder and am asked if I am a U.S. citizen, then I intend to  politely invoke my 5th. Then, see you in 5 to 10, I guess...

The dissolution of our Republic aside.....wife and I talked about doing the same thing.  Maybe even buy a small RV. Alaska would be my first destination. Then Main. Upstate New York. Northern California. Canada.  Lots of places I want to see.

Do you think invocation of the 4th and 5th are valid reasons to be allowed to proceed to through such checkpoints sans any evidence of a crime? Why or why not?

Amazing! I'll go with you. Alaska sounds incredible. My wife and her family rented an RV and spent a month on the Alaskan highway one summer when she we in Jr. High.

We haven't done a grand Southwest trip yet. I would love to do a Route 66 journey with some exiting canyon/mountain-esque side trips as one of our first outings.

Might get a Telsa Model Y and do Telsa camping is I can convince the wifey. My Model 3 is not big enough.

oooh yeah. I did that with friends on spring break in high school, senior year. Drove across Texas, Arizona, New Mexico. Santa Fe is a treasure. Camped on a mountainside in New Mexico. Good times.

Some other American sites that i need to see that i haven't:
- Crater Lake
- Lake Champlain
- The Adirondacks
- Lake Tahoe
- Highway 1
- Baseball HoF
- Pebble Beach
- Bass fishing on Okeechobee
- Cape Cod
- Devil's Tower

I'm sure i'm forgetting a dozen others

Doesn't that kind of restrict where you can go because you've always gotta be within X miles of a charging station??? Or are those becoming as ubiquitous as gas stations these days?

Yes though doing so or not doing so should be immaterial to your being allowed to proceed. If you are suspected of a crime you will probably be detained and investigated. The 4th and 5th amendments are not magic get out of jail free cards you can play like in a game of Monopoly. If law enforcement has legitimate probable cause to detain you and investigate you it is likely they will.
While you certainly have the right to invoke the 5th and according to a SCOTUS decision (if I recall correctly) invoking the 5th is not to be considered an admission of guilt, doing so naturally raises questions in normal people.
My advise is if they are asking direct questions like your name or are you a  citizen my advise would be to answer truthfully. If they are asking indirect questions like where have you been they are fishing don't take the bait.
In general you will probably get through any encounter without much further annoyance beyond being stopped by being respectful and cooperative.

Checkpoints stop all passers-by sans suspicion of a crime -- by design. So, you agree that unless evidence of a crime is reasonably suspected, no one is obligated to ID or answer if they are a citizen at an immigration checkpoint?

Well sort of. I'm not familiar with all of the differnt state laws. They would decide on whether or not you have to provide I.D. In most cases you would likely be in a vehicle at a checkpoint so the driver might be required to provide. However generally speaking you are never required to consent to searches nor answer questions. Although in most cases you will be asked to identify yourself if suspected of a crime and if you refuse you may be detained until they identify you.

Well Brian, fucking idiot that you are. It IS happening to people. American citizens are being stopped for being a certain shade of brown. That's illegal; except in the current mind of SCOTUS. They think and have said, that color can be a criteria for stopping people and checking ID
My point, which you dodged repeatedly, is that NOW Irish people are being looked at for expired visas. Apparently there are several thousand of them ILLEGALLY wandering our streets. Rapists? Murderers? Or just heavy drinkers. I was just pointing out the illegal ICE activities might land on your doorstep. But since you are immune to concern, and inclined to not engage in reasonable conversation, you refuse to tell us what you would do if stopped. Still haven't told us what you think you have in your wallet that proves citizenship.
I was just trying to get you to give a shit; which you don't, as long as it doesn't apply to you. So continue to not give a shit while ICE/Trump/Noem erode YOUR rights.
If Trump's gov't can erode the rights of ANYONE, they can erode the rights of EVERYONE Your total lack of getting that is sad, but not a surprise.

As for driving around the US, I've done a lot through the Southwest. Kinda like the sandstone stuff. Also covered most of California. Drove 8K miles back in 1970 from coast to coast. Lots to see. Lake Tahoe is beautiful. Been there in every season. Pebble Beach is sort of meh. But the entire California coast is worth the trip. You said Highway 1; ;but there's US 1 in the East and California 1 in the West. I'll guess you meant California 1. Great drive. Just make sure it's not under construction. It's prone to landslides.
Driving to Alaska entails a LONG drive through Canada. The road used to eat tires like Trump eats McDonalds. Maybe better now?

And fucking idiot that you are Brain, that's not the point. The point is that stopping people has led to serious violations of the rights of US citizens. Pointing out that WHITE people are now being caught up was a way to attempt to personalize for YOU. But you're immune to concern; so there's that. I might wish that it happens to you, just so................
I can't think of any other way to get a low knowledge Trump fan to become more liberal.
And yes, there's the well known chestnut that a Liberal can be turned into a Conservative by having him get mugged. So there's that.
