So a traitor gets his statue put back up. Not a good move IMO. But the irony here is manifest.

The move “aligns with federal responsibilities under historic preservation law as well as recent executive orders to beautify the nation’s capital and reinstate preexisting statues,” an NPS spokesman said at the time.

So tell me how tearing down part of the White House fits in with this stated goal? For THAT Trump is seeking approval, AFTER THE FACT, from a board that he has packed with some of his sycophants.
Now THAT'S democracy in action. Take a vote; see how many Washingtonians want the statue back up.

Every statue/monument need not make everyone happy. This one was put up in 1901 by some masons who liked one of their own. Turns out the guy probably had quite a few less than stellar characteristics.....but he's a notable figure from history. What's the point in wringing your hands and worrying that the very presence of the statue implies "honor"? Put up a plaque that describes the circumstances around it's creation and gives an accurate historical description of who the guy was and why he is notable.

Tearing it down after Floyd was wrong, i don't care how pissed off people were.....so i got no problem putting it back.

When it comes to problems in DC right now, I'd care more about the people that have a pulse

This makes some sense, G.
The plaque is the right idea.
I guess that I worry that, while Confederate names are being revived (statues, naming  of military bases, ships, etc), more "woke" things are being erased at the same time.
I see it as a move in a specific direction. The Trump admin puts it all under the umbrella of "telling history more accurately" I see it as a wholesale re-write of history.
And,  yes, I know the next line:
"History is written by the victors,"

This is often attributed to Churchill, but not likely. Also paraphrased in quotes from that great man, Hermann Goering. And also paraphrased by a Confederate general.
So not really a great hook to hand one's hat on.
