Dear Brethren,
Could we share thoughts on the following post which is part of a series on traditions in churches by one pentecostal pastor called Craige G. Lewis?

TRADITIONS 106 by Craig Lewis (
http://www.exministries.com)

Those that presently claim to be “Sabbath keepers” are not really keeping the true Jewish Sabbath because they are using the wrong calendar. The original calendar described in the Torah, and used by Moses, was based upon the phases of the moon, not a continuous weekly cycle. This lunar calendar was used for all the feast days, including the weekly Sabbath. Since the biblical calendar is based on the moon, it does not correspond to the days of the modern, Gregorian calendar. For example, the Sabbath is not always on Saturday. The Sabbath could be on Wednesday one month, and Thursday the next.

While "Sabbath keepers" may have good intentions, they cannot use a pagan calendar, which is based on the phases of the sun, to designate a given day as “The Lord's Day”. The modern calendar was created by Julius Caesar in 45BC to honor Roman gods and goddesses. The days recognized the following false gods:

1.Saturn (Saturn's Day- Saturday)
2.Sun (Sun's Day- Sunday)
3.Moon (Moon's Day - Monday)
4.Mars (Tiu's Day- Tuesday)
5.Mercury (Woden's Day- Wednesday)
6.Jupiter (Thor's Day- Thursday)
7.Venus (Freya's Day- Friday)

YOUR VIEWS??

PS

Remember you are answering a non-Adventist, who has come across this kind of post and has addressed it to you!
Some questions to guide us;
  1. Was the 'Jewish sabbath' on a rolling basis i.e. would it fall on any day of the week depending on the moon cycle?
  2. Are Seventh day Adventists keeping the wrong sabbath by following the Gregorian calender?
  3. Don't scriptures like Isa 66:23 "And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD" support the above argument?
  4. Was/is the sabbath day in the Jewish calender determined by the lunar calender just like their feast days?

Dear Eld FM,
Thanks for your input. Could you please help me address some of the questions under the main article? Can we have some bibilical verse to support
any views
that are put forward?

Dear Ivan,
I have read the information about Lewis' presentation about the Sabbath. As far as I know, it was true that new moon Sabbaths, the Sabbath of the atonement, and many other Sabbaths could fall on any day other than the weekly sabbath.
Though Gregory changed the monthly and yearly calenders, he never changed the weekly calendar and therefore the Sabbath of creation was never affected.
Any other comment? To me the Sabbath is still kept even by the Jews the way it was from Abraham's time.

Dear All,
The answers for this comment are available in Genesis 1: 1-31, 2: 1-3. particularly 2: 3 emphasizes on the seventh day which means that although there could be other occasions of "rest" or celebrations still in each week there is "Seventh Day".
Next question is which day is first day so as to know the seventh day? This can be found in Mathew 28:1; Mark 16: 1-2 and Luke 24:1. In modern translations the first day of the week is "Sunday".
According to the sequence of days as presented by this preacher, the seventh day is Friday which is the worship day for Moslems!
Whether or not the  naming of the days was done according to the heathen practices, but the truth of the biblical records is correct, and the current argument is just meant to cause more confusion among the Sabbath keepers as one of the  strategies to mislead genuine Sabbath keepers.
Remember, there has been a campaign to dilute the Bible by removing or changing some verses as shared the other day. So we have to be watchful.

Dear All,
Thank you all for your input, can someone elaborate on how this change from the Julian to the Gregorian calender happened and the effect there of, please include your sources?
According to this preacher in another of his post, he claims the weekly cycle was affected by the change......please read below

By Craig Lewis
In an effort to unify his kingdom, Constantine synchronized the Christian and Pagan holy days by merging the Jewish calendar with the solar calendar in 321 AD. Constantine also blended the Hebrew idea of a seven day week with the Julian concept of a weekly cycle. He even added the veneration of the "Sun God" from Mithrasim to create the Roman calendar used today.

In 325 AD, Constantine and the Council of Nicaea replaced Passover with Easter. Constantine did not simply replace one day with another. He used a completely different system of calendation since Passover cannot be computed using a Julian calendar. This was a subtle, strategic act to paganize and terrorize the Jewish population.

The Roman government used persecution, throughout the empire, in order to enforce adherence to the new national calendar. The Jewish Sanhedrin met for the last time around 350 AD to modify the Julian calendar to the form used by most Jews today. According to the modified calendar, the Sabbath is on Saturday, but the other Feast Days conform to the lunar calendar."
