Dear All,
Sham is back online again, after a work-related gap.
Here is his Kannada email of the day:
Example:
Lady: kaalu kg carrot yeshTappa? (how much is it for quarter KG of
carrots?)
Vendor: Rate jaasti aagide amma, KG moovattu. (Rates are high madam.
Its Rs 30 per Kilo.)
Weights in Kannada
1. kaalu: quarter
2. ardha: half
3. mukkaalu: three fourths
4. ondu kaalu: one and a quarter. similarly, ereDu kaalu, mooru kaalu
etc
5. ondu vare: one and a half. similarly ereDu vare, mooru vare etc.
yeshTu: how much. yeshTappa (yeshTu + appa) is like saying 'kitna
bhaiyya' in Hindi.
jaasthi: More/high
aagide: It has become. (please refer to mail 18 for different tenses)
Next week: We shall explore buying flowers/fruits and some numbers as
well.
