Kannada Phrase of the Day - 17
Dear All,
Good evening. This is in continuation of the 'Them' class introduced
in
the last email.
avanu: He
avaLu: She
Yesterday's exercise:
1. AvaLu tumba koopa maaDkotaaLe (rewriting this to 'him'):
Avanu tumba koopa maaDkotaane.
2. Maneyalli avaLee tinDi maaDkotaaLe (rewriting this to him):
Maneyalli avanee tinDi maaDkotaane.
3. Avanu namma manege bandidda (rewriting this to 'her'):
AvaLu namma manege bandidlu
4. Avanu aa shaaleyalli ooduttiddaane (rewriting this to her):
AvaLu namma shaaleyalli oduttiddaaLe.
Today: Avaru: They (or She/He with respect)
Usage
1. Avaru yaavaaglu nagtaanee irtidru. He/She/They were always smiling/
laughing
avaru: They/He/She
yaavaaglu (yaava-aaglu): Always.
nagtaanee (nagthaa-nE nE as in name): always smiling
irtidru: (irta + idru): used to (denotes past continuous)
Please note that just saying 'nagtaane' without the extended E would
mean 'he (singular) smiles/laughs'. Here, you have to extend
nagthaan'E' to give the verb the feeling of continuation.
Here is a summary of the past 3 emails w.r.t 'they':
avanu: He
avaLu: She
avaru: They
Thanks and regards,
Sham
