Job Title - SQL Data Engineer

Contract role

Job Location - Reston, VA

Job Description:
What you will do:
  • You will interface and work with business stakeholders, project managers, application developers and business analysts to understand the business and functional requirements and create database designs.
  • You will work with cross-functional teams during crises to address and resolve complex incidents and problems in addition to assessment, analysis, and resolution of cross-functional issues.
  • You will recognize and identify potential areas where existing policies and procedures associated with support requires improvement and help in the process/performance improvement.
  • You will recommend business process flow and performance improvements and clearly communicate the problem/resolution process to the Data Engineering group.
  • You will advise and mentor team members in specialized technical areas as well as fulfill administrative duties as defined by the data engineering group.
  • You will work closely with the QA team to identify and implement appropriate manual and automated functional tests
  • You will collaborate with the QA team to define test cases, metrics, and resolve questions about test results
  • You will develop Metrics to Assess & Improve quality and effectiveness of the application development team
  • You will prepare and dispense user stories, provide guidance, and review the work of other team members
  • You will Leverage the latest technologies and products to convert legacy database schemas and applications code between database engines

What you will need:

  • Bachelor's or master’s degree in technical discipline.
  • 5 years enterprise level relational database experience with MS SQL Server in a large-scale enterprise application development environment
  • Experience with a high level of proficiency with T-SQL syntax, Stored Procedures, Views, UDFs and triggers
  • 3 years of hands-on Microsoft SQL Server/My SQL performance tuning, indexing and optimization, T-SQL Programming, Stored procedures/Functions/ Trigger Development
  • Experience with data structures, algorithms, and techniques to tune software for maximum performance
  • Experience with Query Tuning/Optimization, using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools
  • Experience with SQL Server database architecture, design and development, including ER Diagrams, data warehousing and schema design
  • Experience with distributed computing and scalability principles
  • Experience with database scaling including logical and physical partitioning, database sharing and high availability
  • To identify the appropriate use of semi-structured and telemetry data formats (including JSON, XML, Parquet)
  • Experience with multiple projects simultaneously and manage time efficiently
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum
  • AWS Architect Associate Certification required or should be able to complete it by April 30 2022.

  • Experience in designing cloud architecture, specifically AWS (i.e., EC2, S3, Redshift)
