Hey KanjiVG,

Thanks for the amazing work of putting all this information together.

I would like to use the Kanji parts and maybe later on the drawing information in my app.
I see you use the "Creative Commons Attribution-Share Aline 3.0 licence" for your work.
Of course I intend to give all the appropriate credits and links to your work.
However I was not sure whether the rest of my project should also be released on the same licence?
Because I also use code from other sources and all this would clash.
So is it enough to only release your work and modifications of it under the "Creative Commons Attribution-Share Aline 3.0 licence"?

My app is almost completely open source (except for the learning algorithm to prevent complete copying of the project, similar to: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/kanjivg/YKSqYhVp4Zo).
http://surafusoft.eu/kanjiorigin/ (with not much on it yet :p)
https://github.com/SurafuSoft/KanjiOrigin/ (as of writing pretty outdated, but that should change soon).

Kind regards,
SurafuSoft

Hi, and sorry for the very late reply.

You are not bound to release the rest of your project under the same
license as KanjiVG, in particular if your app is open-source (not sure
what "almost" means here).

If you perform some modification over the KanjiVG data, then you are
bound to release it under the same license. However code that makes
use of this data is a different entity and is thus not concerned by
this, unless you directly link KanjiVG's data into your binary in
which case you are likely to have a software design problem. :)

Hope this answers your question,
Alex.

Hey Alex,

That's a clear answer and if I modify something, I will release it under the same licence.
With "almost" I mean all, except the learning algorithm, so that people can use my code as inspiration, but not build my whole app.

Thank you for your reaction,
SurafuSoft
