One of the hat's I wear is the Coordinator of the Missouri Geographic Alliance. On Friday's I put out an email to the MGA listserv email of things of interest, resources and professional development opportunities. I also include a section I call Fun Fact Friday about something interesting in geography or geospatial technology. This week I changed it up a little and I hope you don't mind me sharing this mapping resource with you.
Friday Fun Fact
This week instead of a Friday Fun Fact we are changing things up a bit and sharing a Friday Fun Find. It is the website called MapTools (http://maptools.com
). It is a site created by a navigation instructor and he has several really great resources for teachers, parents, orienteering enthusiasts, and just plain map geeks. The resources I have found handy:
John (the owner of the site) has shared ALL of his PowerPoint’s and handouts at http://maptools.com/instructors/
- There are great Tutorials on this site http://maptools.com/tutorials.html
- This site has FREE Map Tools such as grid locators, roamers, and map overlays in PDF format that you can print onto transparencies to create your own tools http://maptools.com/FreeTools/ (If you have the money and you want to buy those tools that are in PDF or more sophisticated tools he also sells sturdier plastic ones under his product types.)
Take some time and check the website out. The basics of UTM online “booklet” is agreat place to start to get a feel for the content!
If you would to subscribe to our listserv send an email to m...@missouri.edu
with your first name, last name, and preferred email address in the body.
