Vinayagar is a five-faced protector who rides a lion in this form called Heramba Ganapati. He carries an axe, hammer, noose, beads, broken tusk, garland, fruit and modakam in eight of His ten hands.
ஏரம்ப கணபதி விநாயகரின் முப்பத்து இரண்டு திருவுருவங்களில் 11வது திருவுருவம் ஆகும். இது இந்துக் கடவுளான விநாயகரின் ஐந்து முகங்களைக் கொண்ட வடிவம். நேபாளத்தில் இவ்வடிவம் மிகவும் புகழ் பெற்றது.[1] விநாயகக் கடவுளுக்கான தாந்திரிய வழிபாட்டு முறையில் இவ்வடிவம் முக்கியமானது. விநாயகரின் 32 வடிவங்களுள் மிகவும் புகழ் பெற்றவற்றுள் இதுவும் ஒன்று.

"இயலாதவர்களைப் பாதுகாப்பவர்" அல்லது "உதவியற்றவர்களைப் பாதுகாப்பவர்" என்று

ஏரம்ப கணபதி (ஹேரம்ப கணபதி) என்னும் பெயர் பல்வேறு புராணங்களில் காணப்படுகின்றது. 'முத்கல புராணத்தில்' விநாயகரின் 32 வடிவங்களுள் ஒன்றாக இப்பெயர் வருகிறது. வாராணாசிப் பகுதியில் உள்ள 56 விநாயகர்களில் ஒன்றாக இப்பெயரைக் கந்த புராணம் குறிப்பிடுகிறது. பிரம்ம வைவர்த்த புராணம், பத்ம புராணம், சிந்தியாகமம் ஆகியவற்றில் உள்ள விநாயகரின் பெயர்களுள் ஒன்றாக இப்பெயரும் உள்ளது. கணேச புராணத்திலும் விநாயகருக்கான அடைமொழிகளுள் ஒன்றாக இதுவும் காணப்படுகிறது.
பசுமை கலந்த கருமை நிறமும் ஐந்து முகங்களும் உடையவர். அபயம், வரதம் ஆகிய கைகளையும், ஏனைய கரங்களில் பாசம், தந்தம், அட்சமாலை, மாலை, பரசு, சம்மட்டி, மோதகம், பழம் இவற்றைத் தாங்கி சிங்கவாகனத்தில் அமர்ந்து இருக்கிறார்.
Significance of Heramba Ganapati
Heramba Ganapati is regarded as the 11th among the 32 different forms of Ganapati. The Sanskrit term ‘Heramba’ is made up of two words, ‘He’ and ‘Ramba.’ ‘He’ indicates ‘weakness’ or ‘helplessness’; and ‘Ramba’ denotes ‘protection.’ He-Ramba Ganapati is thus the compassionate Lord who is the ‘protector of the weak and the helpless.’ This form of Ganesha is unique in many respects. He has five heads and proportionately, ten arms. And he is riding, not his usual Mooshika mount, but the mighty and majestic lion, the king of jungles. He displays the protective Abhaya Mudra pose in his main right hand, and holds in his other hands, his own broken tusk, the japa mala of Rudraksha beads, a garland, his favorite sweet Modak (dumpling), a fruit, a noose, a battle axe, a hammer, and the wish-granting posture.
This form of Ganesha can be seen as a painting in the Kerala capital Thiruvananthapuram and as a sculpture in some temples in Mysore region, where all the 32 Ganapati forms are on display. Heramba Ganapati can also be worshipped in an idol form, in the famous Kasi Vishwanatha temple at Varanasi, in the state of Uttar Pradesh.

The mantra, which reads as under in Sanskrit hails this Lord of protection as ‘the five-headed Ganapati riding a lion’, describes his form and prays for his grace and blessings.

Shruniparashu dhadhaano mudhgaram modhakam cha
Falamadhigatha simhaha pancha maatangavaktro
Ganapati rathigourahapaathu herambanaam
Let me be protected by the five elephant headed Ganesa riding on a lion who is
very serious, who is called Heramba, Who shows signs of protection and boons,
who holds the rope , his tusk, rosary , sickle , axe, hammer , citron, and
Modhaka.
अभयवरद हस्तः पाशदन्ताक्षमालाः सृणि परशु दधानो मुद्गरं मोदकं च ।
फलमधिगत सिंहः पंचमातंग वक्त्रो गणपति रतिगौरः पातु हेरंबनामा ॥
அபய வரத ஹஸ்த: பாஸ தந்தாக்ஷமாலா
ஸ்ருணி பரஸூ ததாநோ முத்கரம் மோதகம் ச
பலமதிகத ஸிம்ஹ: பஞ்ச மாதங்க வக்த்ரோ
கணபதி ரதிகௌர: பாது ஹேரம்ப நாமா
முன்னிரு திருக்கரங்களில், அபய வரத முத்திரைகளைத் தரித்தவரும், மற்ற கரங்களில், பாசம், தந்தம், அக்ஷமாலை, உலக்கை, கோடரி, மலர், மோதகம், பழம் ஆகியவற்றைத் தாங்கியவரும், சிம்மத்தை வாகனமாகக் கொண்டவரும், ஐந்து திருமுகங்களைக் கொண்டவரும் ஹேரம்பர் என்ற திருநாமத்தை உடையவருமான ஹேரம்ப கணபதி நம்மைக் காக்க வேண்டும்.
