About the main artist Vidushi Kum. A. Kanyakumari
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Vid. Kum. A. Kanyakumari is a leading violinist with an experience of 45
years and has dedicated her life to music. She has excelled in her field of
music as soloist, accompanist, teacher, innovator and organizer while
strictly adhering to the traditional form of carnatic music. The hall-mark
of her music is her playing style which is very close to vocal music. She
has dedicated her life to carnatic music and is grateful to her teachers
Sri. Ivaturi Vijayeswara Rao, Violin Mastero Sri. M. ChandraSekaran and Dr.
M.L.Vasanthakumari for the knowledge that they bestowed on her. She has won
awards and titles to her credit, to name a few, “Sangeeth Natak Academy
Award”, from the Government of India , “Kalaimamani” from the Government of
Tamil Nadu , “Top Rank” by AIR, “Honorary Citizenship” of The State of
Maryland, U.S. and many other awards from leading Sabhas. She is the first
lady violinist to have proved that carnatic music while still adhering to
tradition, can be adapted to instrumental ensemble form, by conducting and
leading carnatic instrumental ensembles of 25, 50, & 75 violins and a 100
instrumentalists ensemble for the first time in South India. She was
selected for Limca Book of Records 2004 for her various achievements in
music as a versatile woman violinist.
Regards,
Samskrta Sangha.
