Swapping from a clockwise propeller to an anti-clockwise one will reverse the flow of water given the same input signal. Switching two of the phase wires between the ESC and the thruster is an alternative way to reverse the direction, so you only need to do one, not both.

I am back about this!
Typical twin propeller for boat seem to have 1 CW and 1 CCW side by side to produce forces. They will turn in oposite direction and the blade are symetrically opposed. Why it is not the case with the 6 and 8 BR thrusters configuration? Front end thruster have the same motor direction and same blade symetry. Back end thruster are the other way around.

Hello,
I want to switch a CW prop to a CCW prop on a new thruster.
I tried using a 2mm hex allen key to unscrew the two screws as per the tutorials but the screws wont budge, Im afraid of stripping the screw heads.

A marine thruster is a device for producing directed hydrodynamic thrust mounted on a marine vehicle, primarily for maneuvering or propulsion.[1] There are a variety of different types of marine thrusters and each of them plays a role in the maritime industry. Marine thrusters come in many different shapes and sizes, for example screw propellers, Voith-Schneider propellers, waterjets, ducted propellers, tunnel bow thrusters, and stern thrusters, azimuth thrusters, rim-driven thrusters, ROV and submersible drive units. A marine thruster consists of a propeller or impeller which may be encased in some kind of tunnel or ducting that directs the flow of water to produce a resultant force intended to obtain movement in the desired direction or resist forces which would cause unwanted movement. The two subcategories of marine thrusters are for propulsion and maneuvering, the maneuvering thruster typically in the form of bow or stern thrusters and propulsion thrusters ranging from Azimuth thrusters to Rim Drive thrusters.[1]

Positioning thrusters come in applications, Bow thrusters at the forward end of the vessel, and stern thrusters mounted aft on the boat. Their purpose is to maneuver or position the boat to a greater precision than the propulsion device can accomplish. Their positioning along the length of the vessel allows for directed lateral thrust ahead and astern of the centre of lateral resistance so that the vessel may be maneuvered away from obstructions in its path, or towards a desired position, especially when coming to or away from a dock. These positioning thrusters are usually significantly smaller than the main propulsion thrusters because they only have to do small adjustments rather than moving the whole vessel at speed.[2] Both bow and stern thrusters may be housed in through-hull tunnels. Depending on the size of the motors driving these propellers, they could draw an insignificant amount of power or a large amount of power that requires much caution to operate. Another smaller subset of positioning thrusters is those used for maneuvering unmanned aquatic vehicles like Guanay II AUV tested by scientists from Spain (Masmitja, 2018).[3]

Does anyone have contact information regarding parts and/or repairs to Nobels hydraulic Bow thrusters. I have damage or wear to the propeller that has sheared off the 1 blade completely from the 3 blade prop. This which has to be replaced, all the usual chandlery's do not stock parts for Nobels as they are no longer made and parts are not available, my unit was installed in 2005. I am looking for a used system (I assume an electric system would have a similar propeller) from which I could take parts or a specialist who could supply a compatible propeller.

I've redesign the mounting system a little bit. Now, rather than using round headed bolts that you have to epoxy into the thruster, you can now use hex headed bolts which slot into the newly designed holes. Because they're hex shaped they will no longer rotate when you're trying to attach the thruster to your frame - even if you didn't epoxy them. It's just better.

Of these four pieces, only the 'Main' piece remains unchanged from Blue Robotics design. The other pieces have been adapted to accommodate the specific requirements of my chosen motor (seen in the picture above attached to the Prop). If you choose to use a different motor, you will probably have to tweak these pieces again.

The use of counter-rotating dual propellers, a WESMAR innovation, splits the power between matched gear sets thus yielding very high efficiency. The aft propeller recovers the swirl energy left behind by the forward propeller creating more thrust.

All bow thruster components exposed to seawater are made of stainless steel including the 4-blade Kaplan props, drive leg, shaft, bearings and seal carriers. The highest quality seals are fitted to the input and output shafts to prevent water ingress and oil leakage. All seals can be replaced without dismantling the complete thruster unit. This best in class reliability translates to enhanced safety for the vessel operator and crew.

5-blade propeller produces equal thrust out of the tunnel across the full 110-185 range from a single propeller. The 250 & 300 utilise twin counter rotating props to get the best performance from larger tunnels and higher power outputs.

We carry bow thruster parts from three of the top manufacturers in the industry: Quick, Lewmar and Vetus. From replacement bow thruster propellers, both left and/or right side, to sacrificial anodes to protect your bow thruster from electrolytic corrosion, we offer the top-quality parts available at fair, affordable prices. For those of you currently using bow thrusters controlled by a push-button keypad, take a look at the Lewmar Joystick Panel Controller and read some of the customer reviews extolling the benefits of changing over. An intuitive side power thruster control makes life so much easier when fine-tuning the movements of your boat. Other Lewmar bow thruster replacement parts include control cables, Y cables, remote isolators, Anl type fuses and fuse holders.

Quick Spa offers many types of thrusters, with single and double propeller. Quick BTQ 300 is a double counter-rotating propeller bow thruster in sturdy composite material. The solenoid unit is protected by a sturdy composite material, the gearbox is made of bronze and the zinc anode is independent from the gearbox, thus allowing easy replacement. It is also equipped with an elastic coupling. This unit is sold complete with thruster and user manual.

BTQ125, instead, is a single-propeller bow thruster in sturdy composite material. The solenoid unit is protected by a sturdy composite material, the gearbox is made of bronze and the zinc anode is independent of the gearbox, thus allowing easy replacement. It is also equipped with an elastic coupling. The product is sold complete with bow thruster and user manual.

Among them, BTR is a rectractable bow thruster in high-quality Nibrall and AISI 316 Stainless steel. It is a reliable, easy and safe retractable bow thruster system for your boat. The unit includes a counter flange which, separate from the supporting structure, makes installation easy, safe and compliant to current regulations on joint requirements. The engine is joined to the structure inside of the keel. The unit also includes single moving body crossing the in-out barrier, protection against mechanical overloading caused by accidental impacts when the system is open and protection against galvanic corrosion by means of sacrificial anodes

The Quick TCD series remote control systems are designed to control the stern and bow thrusters manufactured by Quick. The TCD 1062 control panel is for operating the BTQ bow thruster through a joystick and integrated main switch button. Highlights include user-friendly interface, universal power supply (from 8 to 30 Vdc), possibility to work in a wide range of ambient temperatures, capability of connecting to several TCD controls in parallel, easy installation by means of a 2 wire connector (optional extensions), automatic priority system and disablement, protection against reversed polarity, short circuit output, prolonged activity of motor and interruption of thruster controls wiring.

The Quick TCDEX is a control extension cable used on the Quick BTQ bow thruster series to connect the bow or stern thrusters system to the TCD remote panel control system. This unit is sold complete with extension cable. The Quick TCDSP splitter, instead, is a wiring harness that is used to connect the TCDEX control cables on the Quick BTQ bow and stern thruster installation. This is used to connect the thrusters the TCD control panels where a splitter is required.
