Vanakkam.
As you know, we have instituted an award "Seshan Sanman" honouring the memory of our father Sri T.V. Anantaramaseshan, who was called TVA by his peers.
TVA taught Economics in Loyola College, Chennai from 1954 to 1963, wrote hundreds of Editorials and managed the Education and Books Review page for The Hindu from 1963 to 1986, and wrote for News Today and Malai Chudar subsequently.
A spontaneous poet who could converse fluently in Sanskrit, he composed several hymns on various deities. An authority on temple vaastu, he played a pivotal role in the Kumbabhishekam of several temples in India and abroad.
Though English was his forte, he wrote three brilliant books in Tamil -- explanation of Dasa Maha Vidya, commentaries on Subrahmanya Sahasranama and Siva Sahasranama.
A renowned astrologer and a mantra upasaka, he provided counsel to scores of people who thronged him.
After a brief illness and a major surgery, this great man who never got his due but never even noticed it, merged into his favourite deity Kanyakumari on November 22, 2010 when he was 87.
Since last year, we have decided to convene a modest function to honour a couple of people who have made a rich contribution in their chosen fields.
Last year, we honoured Villu Paattu exponent Sri Subbu Arumugham and Sri Umanath who writes exclusively for children.
This year, we intend presenting the Seshan Sanman award to the legendary scholar Professor M. Vaithilingam and Sri T.R. Jawahar of News Today.
Marabin Maindan Sri Muthaiah, who had a lively association with our father has been so gracious to come and deliver a special address.
We will also be releasing "Hanuman - Vaarppum Vanappum" and Commentary on Paanchaali Sabatam,- two brilliant books(published by Kizakku Pathippagam) written by my friend for 50 years Sri Harikrishnan, who is a remarkable scholar in Tamil and English.
This time, the function will be held on Appa's 93rd birth anniversary, on February 14, 2016 at ARKAY Convention Centre, atop SHAHS, Luz, Mylapore, Chennai.
I join my mother Savithri, brothers - in - law Sri A. Subramaniam (Singapore) Sri S. Thyagarajan, sisters Lalitha Mony (Canada) Malathi and Bhuvana in cordially welcoming you for this function.
I will surely remind you!
Love,
Ramanan
