First of all I hope emulator discussion is ok here. I built a new PC and put windows 11 on it. Went to play some retro games on snes9x and it runs like total crap, drops frames and stutters constantly. It's very noticable in super mario world. I have a very powerful computer and the newest version of snes9x running from a gen4 SSD and performance still sucks, had anyone else had this issue?
I have not tried using it with the other snes cores but when I try and use vulkan with snes9x under windows 7 64, I get an instant bsod when I try and load a game. I could have swore I had it working a few weeks ago but maybe I was using gl or dx11. Both of those still seem to work fine for snes9x.
bsnes and snes9x are recommended. They use your PC clock with no option to modify it, though. SNESGT had the option to modify the clock, but it wasn't updated for a while and isn't really recommended for SNES emulation in general. No$SNS has good BS-X emulation (and the best debugger tools for ROM hackers and translators) but falls behind the others when it comes to general emulation.
You'll need the BS-X BIOS to properly emulate the Satellaview. It goes as "BS-X.bin" under the "BIOS" folder when using snes9x. There are many variants. You'll want the translated one (with English text) with removed DRM so that you can play a given broadcast without restrictions on how many times you can do so, like in the original hardware.
By default, cheats are loaded from "/snes9xgx/cheats/". Cheat files must be placed in the cheats folder and named identically to the ROM name, except with a CHT extension. After putting the cheat file in the proper place and naming it correctly, you can access cheats in-game by pressing 'Home' after loading a game. A Cheats menu option should be available.
Covers should be placed in SD:\snes9xgx\Covers , but this can be configured.Covers MUST be 316X224 and in PNG format.Covers MUST have same name as game (minus the "[" , anything after it, and the space immediately before it) , but with a .png file extension.
