thankyou so much for this mesage, kamakshi amma has led me here, i was very in bhakthi in amma that i wanted to buy a meru and was searching for one, but i found your mesage and now i have understood, thank you for the message again

I find this really misleading. Varahi is not a goddess to fear worship. If have a pure heart and utter her name in full beilef she blesses and protects. I have felt it in my life several times. I have prayed during the day or whenever i feel like praying to her. Any God or divine forces will bless if prayed with pure belief and devotion.

So stop scaring people.

Sir, What is the appropriate way to do RAMANAMA japa? Do I need a guru to initiate me to do RAMA Nama Japa? Or without a guru, is it enough if I recite only RAMA, RAMA, 108 times daily. Or do I have to say, SRIRAMAJAYAM, SRIRAMAJAYAM, 108 times daily, Instead of saying RAMA, RAMA, is it advisable to write RAMA, 108 times? Please advise.

Thank you

Sakuntala

As Sri Periyava has mentioned in Deivathin Kural, it is always advisable to get Bhagawan Nama or Mantra deeksha from a Guru. However, you do not have to wait till that time. Adiyen had the great Bhagyam to have the darshan and interaction of some of the great Bhagawan Nama Japa exponents; Sri Sri Krishna Premi Anna, Pujyasri Guruji Amma, Guruji Gopalavallidasar. Here are a couple of few key takeaways:

1. There is no need to count Nama Japa. If you are chanting Rama or Siva nama just keep chanting without keeping track of the count. The man upstairs will take care of the count. Same goes for writing. However there is nothing wrong in counting, it just becomes business like.

2. There is no appropriate way to chant Bhagawan Nama. There are ABSOLUTELY no rules or restrictions. We can and SHOULD chant wherever and whenever you want 247, 365. It can and should be chanted even in restrooms and during all Theetu times. Care MUST be exercised before we start chanting mantras (anything that starts with Om or ends with Namaha)

Can we chant 25 names of Lalitha Maha Tripurasundari, 16 names of Shyamala Devi and 12 names of Varahi Devi from Lalitopakhyanam during pooja. I have a Kamakshi amman Vigraham at my home and doing pooja

"All the mantras have curses and each of these mantras have different mantras for removing such curses. These curses are made by sages, gods, goddesses, etc. Bālā mantra too is cursed by Devi, which can be removed by reciting Tripura Bhairavi mantra 100 times.

In our lineage Bālā mantra does not come with the requirement to chant curse removal mantras. It is assumed that our Guruji's grace covers that part for the devotee. As such, Guruji to my knowledge never discussed mantra curses because they were nullified by his dīkṣa.

The only similar thing I came across was Guruji talking about Paraśurāma Kalpa Sūtra Vighna Hara (obstacle removing) mantras for Lalitā, Śyāmā and Vārāhī. According to the scripture, they have to be chanted before the japa of each mūla mantra. But according to my understanding even that was not strictly enforced by Guruji. His grace in this respect is paramount.

It is often said that mantras are cursed and therefore require some type of specific ritual action (pūjā) or another set of specific curse removal mantras to make them effective. This is a very orthodox and traditional point of view which is for the most part not followed in contemporary paramparās that impart dīkṣā, such as ours.

However, that being said, many tantras (both Śaiva and Vaiṣṇava) describe such imperfections and "defects" of mantras. The Kulārṇava tantra describes sixty such faults that can affect mantras such as being "asleep", "terrifying", "fruitless", "devoid of a limb", and even "diseased." Other tantras describe mantric imperfections as having to do with an inauspicious number of syllables and the placement of certain syllables in an order that is not conducive to attainment. More blatant examples include, hearing a mantra by accident, or reading it in a book, both require extra rituals to re-empower them. A little more specialized and esoteric is the recommendation that certain mantras are not to be chanted aloud and so if they are spoken, they are already rendered defective and need to be "fixed." Sometimes these fixes involve extended recitation.

Of course, many will likely wonder how in the world can a mantra, which is divine in nature and transmitted through tradition be given as deficient, wouldn't that mean that the tradition itself is deficient?

It is a perfectly legitimate question. A mantra might be thought to be defective because mantras (which are often given in code) are interpreted, or rather "extracted" slightly differently according to different traditions. If one wants to venture further, one might even say "incorrectly."

Another reason a mantra might be thought to be defective or cursed is that it is simply too powerful for common people and so sages who attained siddhi with it cursed such a mantra so the average person will not be able to misuse its śakti. This is a very popular explanation that can be found throughout our Purāṇas.

As admin wrote, in Guruji's tradition (at least as far as I have understood it!) the grace of Śrī Guru who imparts the mantra removes all defects, "curses," and imperfections that may exist and gives the śiṣya a priceless and flawless gem, ready to be polished daily with mantra japa.

This is to prevent and discourage people from chanting some mantras which they heard somewhere or read from a book without taking dīkṣā from a Guru. Once a deity shares some esoteric knowledge with a sādhaka, it becomes a responsibility of that sādhaka to guard the mantra and the knowledge of mantra siddhi and transmit only to someone who deserves and if the deity gives permission.

Taking dīkṣā is very important which even deities sometimes remind some Gurus. In one pravachanam by Bhrahmasri Samavedam Shanmukha Sharma garu, he narrated an experience shared with him by some person. This person attended some mediation and lecture sessions on Lalitā Sahasranāmam by some initiated Guru. One day he was so happy, he made everyone recite Śrī Lalitā Triśatī (I think so, I will have to find that clip again) and that night Devī came into his dream and told him not to make any uninitiated person recite Śrī Lalitā Triśatī. The next day that Guru shared his experience with everyone.

And in some cases some mantras may very well be cursed which happen in Tantras because Tantric mantras are the easiest to chant, very potent and deliver results very fast. Unless one has a protection from a Guru, one can do a lot of damage to oneself and people around with Tantric mantras.

Initially i was also having doubts like this , but later once i listened to guruji lectures , i resonated with what he said , once she gives life she already initiated us , and it is she who shows the path to reach her , can something happen without her notice , not possible , so all is fine.

For example guruji gave sri vidya mantras on youtube and also many other creators have uploaded moola mantra on youtube , but still only few people reach them , and i think they find it with her grace and she has already given permission.

It is better to not make any assumptions. We have shastras to avoid this sort of confusion. If you are worried about the curse then please chant the removal mantra if you've received the 9 year old version of Bala. There is a reason this mantra was cursed. It gives siddhis too fast. So it was locked. There is much more to be said about this. As far as 6 year old Bala, Sri Amritananda Natha Sarasvati is Bala in the flesh. He can do as he pleases. But the original Bala mantra is absolutely locked, the 9 year old too.
