December 4, 2013 Friends,   I'm writing to you today to let you know that we are beginning a new chapter in the story of Above + Beyond Cancer.  It is a time that is filled with excitement and potential, and we hope that you continue to be involved with the organization and grow your support.   Our organizational phase is now complete and our foundation is strong.  In the two years of our operation we have raised over $1.4 million dollars, and have received donations from all 50 states, and 18 foreign states and nations.  We have directly conducted programs for cancer survivors that have transformed lives and filled our community with hope and inspiration.  We have also funded programs for cancer survivors and cancer research that have reduced the burden of cancer across America, by awarding grants to organizations including the American Cancer Society, LIVESTRONG, Catholic Health Initiatives, the YMCA, the Colon Cancer Alliance, and many more.   Dr Deming founded Above + Beyond Cancer to elevate the lives of those touched by cancer to create a healthier world, and I'm proud to say that our community is continuing to rise higher every day.   Our goal now is to begin to build an organization that can make a sustainable contribution to the cancer community in the long-term.  As we work through this transition, Dr Deming and our Board of Directors are working to hire a full-time professional staff to run the organization.  Kent Zimmerman is leading the transition plan under the direction of Dr Deming.  Kent has been a member of our Board of Directors for the last 14 months and was a participant on our last journey to Nepal.   Kent has graciously agreed to step in to an administrative role with the organization and will be acting as the Interim Executive Director of Above + Beyond Cancer as we work through the transition plan.  I will be stepping out of the role of Executive Director as I transition back to my full-time law practice in Charlotte.  Kent and I have been working closely for the last 14 months, and have been working much more closely over the past few weeks.  We believe that the administrative transition will be complete in the next six to eight weeks.   As part of our transition, Steve Cannon has moved out of the role of Program Director and has created a separate, independent event company called "One Race Events".  Steve is already underway on planning a variety of exciting endurance events in Iowa and throughout the United States.  Steve has also received support from LIVESTRONG for an incredibly exciting program that he's organizing next summer called the "550 Relay".   Steve and I will continue to support Above + Beyond Cancer personally and professionally in any way that we can.   Justin, Mary, Bikal, and all our incredible volunteers will continue on in their current roles.   Please continue to reach out to us to share your hopes and dreams for Above + Beyond Cancer.  As you know, this organization is YOUR organization, and it's success and vision depend on your involvement.     You may contact our team directly as follow:   Kent Zimmerman - Ke...@AboveAndBeyondCancer.org Justin Anderson - Jus...@AboveAndBeyondCancer.org Mary VanHeukelom - Ma...@AboveAndBeyondCancer.org Bikal Adhikari - Bi...@AboveAndBeyondCancer.org   Thank your for your ongoing support!   Sincerely,   Charlie Wittmack Above + Beyond Cancer
