Aloha mai kakou,

Next week Thursday, Ka Huli Ao Center for Excellence in Native Hawaiian Law is hosting its last Maoli Thursday discussion of the academic year.  The event's title is, Re-Imagining Education:  Emerging Strategies for Hawai'i's Schools.  We have three panelists participating: 

Dr. Kū Kahakalau 

·       Founder and former director of Kanu o ka ‘Āina, an accredited Hawaiian-focused public charter school 

·       First recipient of a doctorate in Indigenous Education 

·       Researched the impact of Hawaiian-focused education on native student performance, and has led Indigenous educational reform in Hawai‘i and worldwide

Dr. Shawn Kanaiaupuni 

·       Director of Kamehameha Schools’ Public Education Support Division, providing resources and technical support to Hawai‘i’s public education system 

·       Received her master’s and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Chicago

·       Has taught at the Universities of Wisconsin and Chicago  


Professor Mari Matsuda 

·       Law professor at the William S. Richardson School of Law 

·       First tenured female Asian American law professor in the United States while at UCLA in 1998
