Ive created some basic images of reeds and pipes (attached). I can create specific images on request for the handbook or instructional use. If you need any clipart as such, let me know and I will do my best to create it. Thank you.

Hi Julian,
2nd image is wrong at least for my perception. You're putting the reed into the tinier end. It should be reverse.

What about the image lends it to the smaller end? The flattened notch on the drone is on the side with the reed. The hole the reed is going into is larger than the reed itself. The smaller end of the drone would have a hole smaller than the diameter of the reed.

Hi Julian,
you're right. However the semi-shades applied on your image for the drone pipe may confuse someone. Attached is how mine looks. Seems i don't have a flattened notch and you can increase the top part a bit to help the new guys spare some reeds.
Cheers,
Dimitar

The drone is round and doesn't matter how you put the reed into it (if it is made well). I can't see the point of the picture.

However the book is almost ready (the bulgarian version) and will need some drawings :)

Both my djura gaida and kaba gaida have a flattened notch on the drone. They were bothmade by different masters. I was told that this notch is to help identify the intended position of the reed. I struggled getting the sound of the drone correct until I adjusted the reed to be perpendicular and facing left of the notch. Maybe the gaidas I have are of lesser quality, but what I was told seems to be consistent with what works in practice. If there is a tendency for the notch to be used by some gaida makers, it might be worth noting to new players, so they don't struggle with it.
