Hi,
Recently I got an electronic gaida from Fagerström technopipe, and would like to start practising.
I am a beginner to gaida. Are there any good video tutorials for beginners in English?

Thanks,
Yoshi

Hi,

I've got a question...

Is the fingering of Djura gaida the same as ones for Kaba gaida?

Yes. The Djura gaida has broader range than the kaba gaida. You can produce some more half-tones on a djura bagpipe in the lower register. That is all.

Dear Kostdine,

Thank you very much for your answer!

I have started practising gaida with an electronic gaida as I mentioned previously,
Below is the fingering chart of the gaida.

It looks similar to the chart from 'Handbook on Kaba Bagbipes', so I guess the electric gaida is set up to be Kaba Gaida...

The manual says that the pitch of the gaida can be adjusted, so I am guessing that if I make it higher, then it may be able to produce the sound of Djura gaida...

Is there any fingering chart for Djura gaida?

Also, if you know/have music sheets for Trite Puti and other major horo musics for gaida, I'd appreciate if you chould share them.

Kind regards,
Yoshi

These are great!
Mnogo blagodarya Kostadine!

Looking at videos posted by Stoio Stoev, I noticed that he and his students are all holding the chanter with left hand on top.
I read in the Handbook on Kaba gaida that usually right hand is used to hold the top part of chanter.
For Djura gaida, is it more common to hold the chanter with left hand top?

I have got one more question if I may....
Is there a gaida music sheet for 'Що имала късмет Стамена'?
It should be a little too advanced for me still, but I'd like to have a look the music notes and try...

Kind regards,
Yoshi

Hello,

the left hand is more traditional for djura gaida, the right for kaba. There is a very practicle reason for this. Kaba gaida is bigger- the chanter is bigger, the bag is bigger. This puts quite a lot of stress on the left hand which in this case has to do everything- controlling the air pressure in the bag, playing the main chunck of the melody. If you are not naturally left handed it is not advisable for a kaba gaidar to use the left hand as an upper hand.
Sorry, but I couldn't find any recording of Стамена. Maybe you could write directly to Stoyo. He is a very kind person. He may be able to help you.

Greetings
