Dear all,

I have had some problems with the blowpipe of my Gaida lately - it won't come out of the stock. I am currently drying out the instrument so if any moisture is keeping the threads on the blowpipe swollen, they will dry out and I can remove it. Twisting the blowpipe seems to make no difference as it is stuck fast. If you have any suggestions as to how I could more easily remove the blowpipe, I would be very grateful.

Thanks.

Drying works for me. Then remove some threads and you'll not have such problem.

At the moment it is just drying, I can't get at the threads to remove them. I hope after a couple of days it will be loose enough so I can pull it out of the stock.

I have left it to dry since the 16th, and it still refuses to come out. Shall I leave it longer, or is there some more forceful method I could use to remove it?

Leave it. Otherwise you risk to remain with half-broken reed into the stock of the chanter. Thus making an easy exercise a trip to Bulgaria.
I do have such a combo where the tallow sealed the reed to the stock walls. It comes off if I don't play it for 3-4 months.

Oh I don't believe I made myself clear - I was talking about the blowpipe, not the Gaidunitza! It is the blowpipe that refuses to come out, the Gaidunitza is just fine.

still the same thing. You may try winding the pieces into opposite directions  with the assistance of a cloth for a firmer grip. But still you have to be careful not to break it. If it resists,  you may try with low volume of a hair drier from very far distance or let it for a couple more days and then try again.
Once you figure it out, I would advise to grease your strings - they may have become dry and to impose more resistance.
Cheers,
Dimi

If there is a gap between the blowpipe and the hub, you can put some oil.

I shall try the hair dryer - then oil if it still refuses to budge. Thank you for both of your suggestions.
